Position Summary

The Senior Engineer, Automation will lead and execute Engineering/Automation projects and provide Automation Support at the Fort Washington site.  The Senior Engineer, Automation provides technical leadership and direction for standards, procedures, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements associated with automation/engineering practices and execution.  The Senior Engineer, Automation will provide input into the Product Life Cycle process as it relates to automation requirements.  The Senior Engineer, Automation will collaborate within the Technical Operations function including Engineering, Liquids, Commissioning & Qualification, Packaging Technology Platforms as well as with Quality functions and Manufacturing to establish and continuously improve automation/engineering practices, procedures and performance measures.  The Senior Engineer, Automation will be responsible for managing and delivering engineering/automation projects from concept to post implementation including developing project scope, user requirements, appropriation requests, time-lines and budgets, qualification plans, approving equipment specifications and documentation to meet current company, corporate and government requirements.  The Senior Engineer, Automation will also be responsible for managing the purchase, installation and start-up of equipment and system including adherence to compliance, cost and time schedule requirements.

  • Ensures that established validation procedures are being followed in all validation executions.
  • Participates in establishing consistent, harmonized, validation processes and procedures across Johnson & Johnson Consumer Healthcare OTC businesses and manufacturing sites.
  • Authors standard operating procedures.
  • Participates in cross functional teams to lead and execute projects as well as continue improvement in validation practices and procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure the site automation/engineering activities are documented consistently and on a timely basis.  Provides metrics on performance versus the documented plans.
  • Informs direct Management of automation/engineering issues requiring prioritization.
  • Leads, executes and/or reviews the progress of approved projects.  Provides ideas and support to resolve issues impacting timely completion and achievement of project goals. 
  • Provide technical support for engineering projects including equipment design and development, capital project execution, manufacturing technical support, new product introduction and process improvement initiatives with responsibility for assisting with project execution and site stakeholder alignment. Technical support may involve various plant shift support across all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Participates in audits.  Supports regulatory agency interactions.
  • Provides technical support to investigations and resolution of process deviations including complex investigations.
  • Identifies areas of process improvement.  Works with technical group to implement process improvements. 
  • Influences the direction of projects and resources as indicated through collaboration with business partners, manufacturing sites and site validation efforts.
  • As applicable provide supervision and/or guidance to engineers with less experience.
  • With oversight, lead cross functional teams working on automation/engineering projects.
  • Maintain working knowledge of state of current automation practices across industry.
  • Ensures that established automation procedures are being followed in all automation executions.
  • Participates in establishing consistent, harmonized, automation processes and procedures
  • Provides technical support to investigations and resolution of process deviations including complex investigations.


Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of Pharmaceutical manufacturing related experience is preferred. 
  • Experience in automation is preferred.  
  • Prior PLC experience with is a plus.
  • Relevant experience in engineering, technical, and/or operations areas is required.  
  • Knowledge of cGMPs and Good Documentation Practices is required.  
  • Experience working in a FDA/cGMP compliance environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge and application of FDA regulatory requirements and ISA standards is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence manufacturing teams regarding prioritization is required.
  • Ability to inform, communicate with, and influence direct management regarding validated state of respective products/processes and indicated priorities is preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of pharmaceutical/OTC product and process development; life-cycle management of this class of products including strategies for continuous improvement preferred.
  • Ability to direct multiple projects concurrently; to periodically assess and re-direct resources as indicated in a dynamic environment preferred.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership in problem-solving and decision-making; to collaborate with and influence business partner leaders with a focus on data, science, and technology preferred.
  • Ability to constructively challenge cross-functional project teams and business partners to achieve project goals and Johnson & Johnson strategic plans preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills preferred.
  • This position is located in Fort Washington, PA and may require up to 10% travel domestically and internationally.
