The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies—including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices—that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women’s health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity.

The Business Unit Leader, Absorbable Biomaterial Components will be responsible for managing production personnel to maximize quality and output for the Absorbable Business Unit within the Ethicon Athens and Cornelia, Georgia locations. This leader will also be accountable for achieving production targets while maintaining cost controls and driving the organization to a world-class benchmark within the Ethicon manufacturing network.
Responsibilities: 
Lead and direct the production operations in both Athens and Cornelia sites
Collaborate with all relevant departments to determine production goals and communicate targets to assigned department
Establish production priorities and sequence of manufacturing projects
Review manufacturing issues to assess any potential risks (quality, safety, environmental, etc.) to operation
Monitor production output against customer due dates and initiates action to prevent missed commitments
Examine production and operating reports and oversee actions taken to resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems
Ensure awareness of plant personnel in the areas of safety and quality; review programs within these areas and plant compliance records
Ensure training plans are aligned with areas in need of improvement
Review and approve standard operational and working practices; recommend modifications as appropriate
Approve business unit's operational budget and initiate effective cost control practices
Evaluate and approve recommendations regarding equipment repair and/or replacement
Lead, develop and motivate the team to achieve and improve upon monthly and yearly operating results
Identify growth opportunities and optimization of operating performance
Oversee all operational processes and partner closely with supporting functions including Quality Operations, Compliance, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Finance, Planning, Health, Safety and Environmental to ensure execution and compliance
Drive strategic projects to optimize the local supply chain, product and process quality and to reduce costs and move the organization to a world-class benchmark
Effectively manage and resource human, material, and capital resources to meet quality, customer service, financial, EH&S, and product and process improvement targets
Develop and sustain a culture of waste reduction for sustained improvement in product and process quality
Ensure close collaboration with Quality Operations so that the Quality System is regularly audited/ reviewed and that appropriate preventive and corrective actions are identified and executed to improve quality results
Ensure fulfillment of all safety, industrial hygiene, environmental and labor regulatory requirements
Drive identification and successful implementation of cost improvement projects (CIP's)
Recommend and implement employee development programs to raise the associate's capabilities
Develop solid succession plans that have "ready now" associates for key positions
Create a compelling work environment in which every associate is valued and recognized for their contribution to our success
Build and continues to develop a strong, solid, cohesive team that is aligned, inclusive and confident in openly challenging the leaders and each other


Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
Minimum 10 years of related business experience required
Successful experience in a general management function of a plant within J&J preferred
Manufacturing Business Unit leadership experience preferred
Demonstrated experience managing and shaping multi-disciplinary teams required
Multi sector experience preferred
Lean and/or Six Sigma certification preferred
Understanding of Change Integration or Change Management Process, and evidence of effective use of tools preferred
Budget management experience required
People leadership experience required
Strong ability to create and implement vision and set strategic direction required
This role is located in Athens, GA and Requires up to 20% domestic and international travel
