The Project Manager, Medical Affairs Solutions, plans and executes new opportunities to leverage technology to enable the core functions of Medical Affairs – scientific data exchange, scientific data dissemination and scientific / medical communication. The Project Manager, Medical Affairs Solutions works with stakeholders to define business needs and extract requirements that will inform the solution delivered to meet their needs.  The PM collaborates with Business Leaders in Medical Affairs as well as with Cross-Functional leaders and partners to Plan investments and strategic initiatives that align Medical Affairs with key strategic imperatives such as Janssen Experience, Janssen One, Medical Information of the Future (MIOTF).  The Project Manager will form and Lead Project teams comprised of members both within and external to Medical Affairs developing Project Charter and Schedule, aligning team members to Project objectives and managing to Milestones to ensure delivery of the Project meets or exceeds value it was intended to deliver.  The Project Manager, Medical Affairs Solutions is constantly seeking innovative solutions to meet the needs of the Medical Affairs business.  He/she also provides strategic project planning and communicates the project mission/charter, deliverables, milestones, and strategy to Manager, Medical Affairs Solutions and internal MA business partners as appropriate.
The Project Manager, Medical Affairs Solutions, must have strengths in communication, in problem solving, in negotiating with stakeholders, in managing projects with cross-functional membership, in influencing laterally, upwardly and often without authority. You must have strong client relationship management, project management and business analysis skills and have experience working with all levels of stakeholders including management. The keys to success in this role will be delivery and execution of projects with a commitment to quality, to continuous improvement, to continuous enhancement of capabilities and solutions, across cross-functional groups that deliver value to the organization.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall responsibility for the planning and execution of technology projects from project initiation to completion.
  • Analyze business needs, gather, document and assess business requirements from stakeholders and define a business case for a technology solution
  • Develops and monitors continuous improvement activities, including measuring existing systems against changing business requirements to determine enhancements and process improvements.
  • Lead Project teams formed by members both within and external to Medical Affairs developing Project Charter and Schedule, aligning team members to Project objectives and managing to Milestones
  • Transform the information from stakeholders to functional requirements and user stories that can be translated to technology partners for solution design and delivery.
  • Develop data models, process workflow diagrams, user interface specifications (wireframes, UX/I, URS) as needed
  • Participate in technical design, contributing insights and ideas that help translate business needs of functional partners in Medical Affairs into solution specifications
  • Participate in Business Planning activities with IT partners, Medical Excellence Management team including Medical Director to ensure Medical Affairs Canada Projects are identified in Business Plans and funded appropriately
  • Provide Medical Affairs Solutions Team leadership on global teams (GMT, iConnect Change Advisory Board) negotiating Change initiatives on behalf of Medical Affairs Canada, approving Change Initiatives where needed, acting signatory for Change on behalf of Medical Affairs Canada
  • Lead the assessment of digital solutions and vendors to identify scalable digital solutions that can be leveraged across therapeutic areas and by multiple business units, e.g. Webcasting and Virtual Medical Meetings technologies, Veeva CRM / Vault capabilities
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional and global partners (IT, Compliance, Medical and Scientific Affairs partners) to drive projects forward and provide optimal value to the organization.

Knowledge and Technical Requirements:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science, Business, or Information Technology is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences regulated environment (GxP) QC, Clinical/Medical or Drug Safety experience is required.
  • Business and/or technology experience, including business analyst or project manager in a pharmaceutical, technical, financial (or other regulated) industry is required.
  • Broad expertise in technology platforms and tools such as SaaS, Enterprise Document Management platforms,, SharePoint, Veeva CRM/Vault, BI tools (Qlik, Tableau, Cognos), Adobe, Office365
  • Working knowledge of medical/clinical terminology, roles and responsibilities is an asset
  • Experience with software development life cycle, Agile methodology is an asset
  • Process Excellence/Six Sigma methodology and terminology is an asset
