The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies—including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices—that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women’s health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market-leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. The Sterilization Facilitator will:

  • Effectively coordinate, organize, analyze, communicate and troubleshoot technical and process concerns associated with the sterilization operations
  • Daily administer and oversee operations of the sterilizer, as it relates to Packaging and Distribution.
  • Assist in the coordination of material flow planning through the sterilization process
  • Plan and conduct process and safety training for associates assigned to the sterilization process including process changes and “new” sterilization associate
  • Assure compliance with all safety, regulatory, corporate, federal, state and local policies
  • Perform duties with the understanding that erroneous decisions, recommendations or failure to complete assignments will normally result in serious delays to assigned projects with considerable expenditure of time, human resources and funds
  • Lead process improvement efforts related to sterilization equipment
  • Support and coordinates process development and new product introductions and validations
  • Maintain continuous development in the field
  • Achieve and perpetuate continuous improvement in skill areas
  • Assume back-up responsibilities for Radiation Safety Officer (training and certification)
  • Manage in accordance with established policies and methods to meet production commitments
  • Monitor work operations and subordinates’ performance to include: technicians, operators and cross-functional project teams as required
  • Set standards for safe behavior
  • Recognize and reward safe behavior in others
  • Ensure that direct reports employ safe practices 
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures 
  • Evaluate staff member’s safety performance and insure that safety is a part of each direct report’s GPMS 
  • Reports to Sterilization Manager
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned and not all responsibilities listed may be assigned
  • Environmental – Participate in EMS management structure toward implementation and maintenance of EMS including continual improvement; pollution prevention; objectives and targets; and regulatory compliance
  • Participate and support the ISO 14001 Certification and Regulatory Audit process. Implement and follow all applicable EMS procedures. Adhere to the site’s EHS Code of Conduct

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related scientific or technical field is required
  • A minimum of four (4) years of related manufacturing and/or operations experience is required
  • Experience in Gamma Sterilization is preferred
  • Experience with PLC, networks, software applications (AQR / EP / E1) is preferred
  • Previous people management and/or supervisory experience is preferred
  • Planning and/or Materials Management background is preferred
  • Experience in a regulated environment is preferred
  • Ability to do customer focused decision making is preferred
  • High comprehension and utilization of TQM, MPQ, QFD, GMP and Quality is preferred
  • Systems, safety, Environmental, TAI, Re-engineering, CFM, Capacity is preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and/or internationally is required
