The MSL Field Director (FD) contributes to the development and implementation of field strategies in conjunction with the MSL National Field Director to achieve organizational goals in a manner that is appropriate and compliant with current regulations. The FD is responsible for recruitment, coaching, and development of direct reports. The FD has partnership responsibility with RBDs, District Managers, Marketing and Medical directors.
The MSL FD is responsible for the development of all employees within the department by supporting the development of Human Resources Planning (HRP) programs including management development and training to meet current and future business needs.  The FD provides an environment, which encourages the company's commitment to equal employment opportunity and the value of a diverse work force.
Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for the management of a regional Infectious Disease MSL team including:
    • Ensures that team functions are according to the business plan and company directives.
    • Conducts routine team field visits and 1:1 meetings, providing observation and coaching.
    • Conducts performance coaching and feedback discussions.
    • Works with MSL trainer and provide oversight of the team’s training and development.
    • Ensures team optimal capacity, field activity level, and field metrics.
    • Manages the team through special projects and cross functional support activities
    • Monitors and has accountability for MSL team budget
    • Provides appropriate oversight if the team is supported by Contract MSL personnel
  • Recruits, selects and hires a qualified and diverse work force for the regional ID MSL team.
    • Provides career and succession planning in support of staff reaching their highest potential

    • Responsible for timely completion of administrative duties. Examples include assessment an approval of expense reports, preparation and communication of team metric reports
    • Co-leads the communication of MSL team achievement updates to appropriate internal partners and levels of management
  • Develop, communicate, implement, and assess compliant and appropriate clinical field activities regionally to meet needs of the Medical Affairs organization along with the scientific needs of customers and to optimize customer relationships.
    • Participates in business planning activities as necessary across the various brands and within Medical Affairs. Ensures appropriate training on and execution of proactive initiatives and other permissible field activities.
    • Through partnership with other FD counterpart, co-leads the implementation of MSL ID field strategies for the entire MSL team.
    • Co-leads the implementation of MSL field collaborative strategies to ensure compliant partnership with other customer facing teams (e.g. sales, sales training, partner companies).
    • Ensures effective and efficient collection and distribution of voice of customer and MSL team metrics
    • May be responsible for identifying and developing field scientific strategies
    • Participates and/or leads cross functional/company initiatives
  • Partners with MSL trainer and Medical Directors to effectively prioritize and utilize available resources to train and meet objectives.
  • Keeps abreast of relevant disease states and market dynamics to contribute to the development of innovative solutions for Medical Affairs, other internal partners and customers. FD will be involved in other MAF projects as needed.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. PharmD, PhD, MD, PA or NP highly preferred 
  • Minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical industry, clinical/research experience is preferred.
  • MSL experience is preferred.
  • Infectious Diseases experience is preferred.
  • Previous people management responsibility is highly preferred.
  • Requires travel of approx. 70% depending on geography (includes overnight travel
  • Ability to maintain an office in the home required.
  • Must be available to attend key strategic/scientific meetings at the corporate office in Titusville, NJ
  • It is preferred that the person be located in the region, but not required.
