The vision of the LCI is to eliminate lung cancer with solutions that can prevent, intercept, or cure this disease.   Our mission is to develop solutions that target the root causes of the problems that lead to lethal lung cancers, thus reducing both lung cancer incidence and fatalities.

This is an externally-focused, highly entrepreneurial deal-making and leadership role aimed at identifying and on-boarding potentially transformational innovation into Johnson & Johnson.  The role is focused on identifying transformative innovation in the context of Lung Cancer solutions including prevention, interception, treatment and cure.


The role provides a unique opportunity to make life-changing innovations possible/successful and make a significant impact by leveraging the unique capabilities and reach of the world’s largest and most diversified healthcare company.


In addition to finding highly innovative product opportunities and technologies, the full spectrum of deal-making will be deployed, ranging from research collaborations, licensing, options and acquisitions through to venture investment, new company formation and spin-outs.

The role will be focused on Johnson & Johnson’s new Lung Cancer Initiative and intended to build upon each of the J&J’s core sectors with Lung Cancer focused solutions.

 

The successful candidate will have a diverse career background and experiences. A significant and varied previous “real world” career experience in the biotech, medical device or consumer fields is essential.

 

They must be able to demonstrate an extensive personal network including senior decision-makers and leaders in fields relevant to role.


Qualifications

He/She should have an advanced life sciences or engineering degrees from world-leading institution or MDs with strong scientific and business mind-set and credentials. Evidence of genuine scientific curiosity and successful scientific enquiry. Exceptional candidates without formal science qualifications but with relevant and successful career experience in science-driven businesses may be suitable.

 

Business development, commercial (sales & marketing) or start-up experience in consumer healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology or medical devices are highly desirable. Experience in venture capital or private equity firms particularly attractive. Experience in an investment bank or a top tier strategy management consultancy may also be relevant.

The selected candidate must be able to demonstrate previous deal-sourcing and transaction success (deals sourced/identified that were subsequently successfully executed) including evidence of substantial involvement in driving/championing/leading the opportunity evaluation and negotiation through to a successful outcome in a cross-functional environment and the ability to help build understanding and consensus in support of a transaction at all levels in an organization.

 

This person should have level high degree of dynamism, ambition and risk tolerance and the ability to demonstrate evidence of being a highly proactive self-starter, for example, through prior entrepreneurial business activities.

 

Strategic thinker as indicated by experience of contributing to the development of corporate or business unit strategy and translating this into appropriate business development goals that are then successfully executed

 

Willingness and ability to travel, up to 50% of the time.
