The Senior Principal Scientist will be responsible for identifying novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers from the investigation of human omic data (Transcriptomic, Single-cell/nuclear, Metabolomic, Proteomics, Genetic) from preclinical studies, clinical samples, and real-world datasets. They will drive the identification of mechanisms of disease for therapeutic development in Cardiovascular & Metabolism through the use of cutting-edge bioinformatics & data science approaches integrating omic data. Additional responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with therapeutic area biologists in drug discovery to nominate emerging target opportunities and to drive in-silico identification of biomarkers for emerging programs
- Develop algorithms to enable large-scale data mining and drive the development of tools and platforms enabling interpretation of emerging data across the therapeutic area
- Uncover opportunities for therapeutic translation from preclinical models to human and seek to establish biomarkers of disease heterogeneity, progression, and treatment response from data sources including clinical trials, precompetitive consortia, academic collaborations or population biobanks
- Initiate and drive strategic external collaborations supporting these goals
PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Genetics or similar discipline with at least 8 years of experience in an industry research environment is required
Postdoctoral experience is preferred
A strong track record of analyzing high-dimensional human data, transcriptomics, genetics and methods of generating and analyzing such data types is required
Strong computer programming skills and experience with common bioinformatics programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Bash) as well as package, dependency and environment management tools is required
Familiarity with Cardiovascular, Diabetes & Metabolism research and biology,target identification and therapeutic development is preferred
Knowledge of biological mechanisms and application of computational biology methods (preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry) is required
Ability to write manuscripts for publication and has maintained a record of high-quality peer reviewed publications and oral presentations in a relevant field
Understanding of the overall process of drug discovery and development is required
