The Principal Scientist position in Lead Engineering is a leadership position within the Biologics Discovery team.  The successful candidate will drive biologics discovery in partnership with different therapeutic areas (TA) including oncology, immunology, metabolic diseases, neurology and infectious diseases. As a scientific leader in the department, the Principal Scientist will interact with other functional areas to design and implement high-throughput protocols and automation targeting antibody & other biological therapeutics, such as CAR-Ts. The positions responsibilities also include therapeutic portfolio project leadership in a matrixed organization and innovation by adding cutting-edge automation to the multi-specific workflows.   The scope of this position encompasses:
 
  • Lead a team to design sequences and building of universally compatible vectors to support all large molecule, cell- and viral-based therapeutics
  • Develop novel antibody-based technologies to expand the throughput within multi-specific and CAR-T engineering
  • Design and implement an automation plan for Lead Engineering that meets Janssen Biotherapeutics current and future needs
  • Building automation to streamline antibody, multi-specific format workflows
  • Leading portfolio project(s) from idea through IND-readiness in partnership with therapeutic area leadership
  • Lead and execute molecular biology, such as in silico sequence fitness assessments, PCR-based cloning, construct design, library and/or site-directed mutagenesis strategies for the biologics portfolio
  • Developing workflows for high-sensitivity, high-throughput assays (protein and/or cell-based) for antibody and cellular therapeutics to select leads with excellent biophysical and manufacturing properties with reduced immunogenic potential
  • Leading and supervising research activities of bench scientist(s)
  • Presenting and defending scientific findings in cross-functional project teams/initiatives, drafts protocols and reports
