The MSL Field Director can be located most anywhere in the USA, with the requirement that the home base be centrally located and easily accessible to the territory and that of the MSL team by way of major airport hubs.

The MSL Field Director (FD) contributes to the development and implementation of field strategies in conjunction with the MSL National Field Director to achieve organizational goals in a manner that is appropriate and compliant with current regulations.
  • The FD is responsible for recruitment, coaching, and development of direct reports.
  • Has partnership responsibility with RBDs, DMs, Value & Excellence Team, Sales Learning & Development (SLD), Medical Communications and Medical directors.

  • Will meet with local and regional thought leaders as frequently as is requested for business needs.
  • Will oversee the delivery of objective, fair balanced scientific presentations to external health care provider requestors.
  • Will have a ~6 direct reports.
  • Will be responsible for the management of a regional Infectious Disease MSL team.
  • Ensures that team functions are according to the business plan and company directives
  • Conducts routine team field visits and 1:1 meetings, providing observation and coaching
  • Conducts performance coaching and feedback discussions
  • Works with SLD trainer and provide oversight of the team’s training and development.
  • Ensures team optimal capacity, field activity level, and field metrics.
  • Manages the team through special projects and cross functional support activities.
  • Monitors and has accountability for MSL team budget.
  • Provides appropriate oversight if the team is supported by Contract MSL personnel.
  • Recruits, selects and hires a qualified and diverse work force for the regional ID MSL team.
  • Provides career and succession planning in support of staff reaching their highest potential

  • Responsible for timely completion of administrative duties. Examples include assessment an approval of expense reports, preparation and communication of team metric reports
  • Co-leads the communication of MSL team achievement updates to appropriate internal partners and levels of management
  • Participates in business planning activities as necessary across the various brands and within Medical Affairs. Ensures appropriate training on and execution of proactive initiatives and other permissible field activities.
  • Through partnership with other FD counterpart, co-leads the implementation of MSL ID field strategies for the entire MSL team.
  • Ensures effective and efficient collection and distribution of voice of customer and MSL team metrics
  • May be responsible for identifying and developing field scientific strategies.
  • Participates and/or leads cross functional/company initiatives



  • A minimum of a PharmD, MD, PhD, PA, NP or Masters level degree with equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 4-5 years related experience in the pharmaceutical industry with MSL field experience is preferred.
  • ID, specifically HIV, experience is preferred.
  • People management, leadership and development experience highly preferred.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Experience and sensitivity to working with gender, ethnic/culturally diverse groups
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and customize customer plans with a solution orientation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • The ability to clearly and appropriately convey and present information and ideas in an effective and impactful manner through a variety of approaches
  • This position requires up to 60% travel
  • A valid driver’s license is required
