The Janssen Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) and World Without Disease Accelerator (WWDA) have the goal to accelerate the translation of a new healthcare paradigm, where we seek to prevent, intercept and cure disease in areas such as Lung and Colorectal Cancer and Type 1 diabetes.  Due to the rapid pace of scientific, technological and medical innovation we seek to establish a dedicated team of experienced professionals to identify, evaluate and partner external opportunities in support of the overall LCI/WWDA strategies. 


For the External Innovation Leader, we are seeking domain experts in Oncology/Immunology/ImmunoOncology, who will partner with our LCI/WWDA leaders to align on strategic directions and plans to identify and partner innovative solutions in priority areas of focus to accelerate the path to disease interception, prevention, or cure.


Reporting directly to the Global Head of External Innovation LCI/WWDA and based in our Global Innovation Center in (Boston and London) the successful candidate will have responsibility for identifying opportunities within their geographical regions and will partner with Janssen’s Global External Innovation network that includes our Global Innovation Centers, J Labs, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation and Business Development to accelerate the development of an innovative portfolio of disease based projects and solutions.


In this exciting role, you will: 

Develop a partnering strategy that supports the LCI/WWDA strategies, identify and triage opportunities consistent with the agreed strategy
Lead cross-functional due diligence teams to efficiently assess and execute in-licensing, collaboration and alliance opportunities for projects and solutions from inception through Proof of Concept.
Develop and refine project plans in collaboration with external business partners and internal personnel to help drive scientific and clinical progress.
Prepare and present scientific and business rationale for any recommendations and transaction proposals to WWDA leadership
Develop, cultivate, and manage relationships with Janssen Innovation Centers, JLabs and Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation personnel at each of the global locations to enhance networking opportunities and to partner capabilities in transactional support. 
Develop and maintain internal collaboration with each of Johnson & Johnson sectors, including pharm, medical device and consumer, and other internal capabilities given the cross-sector nature of LCI/WWDA strategy.
Identify, establish and maintain a broad network of relationships with potential licensors: Industry, academic institutions and biotech partners worldwide.
Stay current with emerging scientific, technological and medical innovations within the field.
Exemplify company’s value proposition as a “partner of choice” to attract potential partners.


An advanced degree; MD or PhD in biology, immunology biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or other health science related focus is required 
A minimum of 12 years’ experience of assessing external innovation opportunities in biotech or pharma with proven track record of building scientific partnerships and successfully executing deals.
Previous experience in conducting/managing research in Oncology and/or Immunology
The ability to develop and maintain strong strategic partnerships, both internal and external, is also required
Experience with multiple solution types such as: Rx, Device, Diagnostic, Digital, Nutritional or related is preferred
Ability to think and act strategically, anticipate road-blocks and map out next steps is also required.  
Demonstrates excellent communication skills and ability to matrix manage in a complex team environment is required
Excellent attention to detail is also required
