Johnson & Johnson’s Cardiovascular & Specialty Solutions (CSS) Group within Medical Devices is recruiting for a Staff Supplier Engineer for Biosense Webster located in Irwindale, CA. The CSS Group serves a diverse base of customers in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Infection Prevention, Electrophysiology, Surgical and Non-Surgical Aesthetics, Sedation and Reprocessing.

The Staff Supplier Engineer will manage and maintain the technical qualification of suppliers and supplier processes, supervise the resolution of complex technical issues that may require the development of new or improved techniques or procedures and lead related activities for designated commodity(s). The position provides technical leadership, project management and mentoring to engineers and team members. It explores and manages technical innovation needed to develop processes for the manufacture of medical devices. The position translates abstract project concepts or requirements into meaningful, actionable deliverables and plans.

 

The Staff Supplier Engineer is the technical lead to manage multiple large scale, complex projects and coordinate and lead the utilization of internal/external resources to achieve project goals. The position will support external suppliers through managing the qualification of supplier products and processes, analyzing and resolving supplier technical issues, provide leadership and coaching as a team leader and within teams, initiate and manage process excellence projects to improve quality, yields and value received from the supply base.  The position will act as the representative for both the supplier’s quality system and the BWI quality system and will need to work with BWI Supplier Quality partners to ensure that technical plans adhere to requirements in both systems.

 

Additional duties of the Staff Supplier Engineer include partnering with the new product development community to provide technology assessment and supplier technical support, supporting new product development and other "product lifecycle" activities, designing and overseeing experiments, applying statistical analyses to evaluate results and preparing technical reports. The position will lead cross-functional teams in critical, complex projects of major impact on business unit sales and profitability, support Operations management and Engineering in leading tactical activities sustaining corporate initiatives and/or departmental objectives and participate in technology and development of partnerships to develop internal competencies for supporting external product development.

 

The Staff Supplier Engineer act as a liaison between Product Management, R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs and the supplier to ensure design changes are developed appropriately for a manufacturing environment, leads or supports troubleshooting activities, validations and raw material/process improvements and compiles and evaluates test data to perform root cause analysis of raw material failures. The position directs and participates in special projects as requested by Management. The position will also decide technical direction and support of new, existing or modified manufacturing processes, including product scale-up.

 

Key internal working relationships include Supplier- and Franchise- Quality Assurance, supporting production-related issues and ensuring product quality, Procurement - partnering with Supplier Relationship Managers (SRM`s) enhancing the quality and effectiveness of suppliers to ensure supply chain continuity, Product Management - supporting product development and sustaining engineering activities.

 

Required skills of the Staff Supplier Engineer also include: serve as the technical expert for supplier development engineering and assigned area of expertise, with conceptual knowledge of all technical functions and business areas, drive innovation within functional area and build cross-functional and cross-departmental support, fostering overall group effectiveness.

 

Externally the relationship is with Suppliers - qualifying processes and assessing technical capabilities. There may be future supervisory responsibilities as well.



Qualifications
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) and a minimum of 7 years of related experience is required.
  • It is preferred the ideal candidate have a Six Sigma Black Belt certification,  electronics / electromechanical assembly and medical device (or other highly regulated) industry experience.
  • It is required to possess the demonstrated ability in leadership and project management.
  • Previous manufacturing environment experience required.
  • It is required the Staff Supplier Engineer possess the ability to oversee the development of others in the department, define complex issues and execute work that involves complex problems.
  • The successful candidate will possess effective leadership and management skills, have the ability to influence others to achieve business objectives and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The position requires strong technical writing skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to fluently change priorities based upon business need.
  • This position is located in Irwindale, CA and may require up to 35% domestic and/or international travel.
