Janssen Inc. is looking to hire a Leader, Canada Communication based in Toronto, Ontario.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Business Unit Communication Leader, the Leader, Canada Communication is responsible for the strategic planning, development and implementation of integrated communication and public relations/public affairs programs to support Janssen Canada business objectives.  Responsibilities include public affairs and corporate communication, marketing communication, public relations, issues management, organizational communication and management of a communications team.  

Primary Responsibilities:

Drive business growth and build stakeholder trust/advocacy through proactive public affairs and public relations programs
 Set vision and strategic direction for Janssen Canada communication function
 Provide communication counsel to the Company President and specific senior leadership
 Lead development of innovative strategic communication programs to drive business growth and support patient access across multiple therapeutic areas (Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Infectious Diseases & Vaccines and Diabetes) through multiple channels such as earned, paid and social media
 Manage corporate reputation initiatives and ensure global alignment between messaging and corporate values
 Build and execute corporate communication and public affairs strategies to shape healthcare policy
 Contribute to a strong industry voice through collaboration with external partners and industry associations 
 Serve as Communications representative on the Janssen Canada Leadership Team

Maintain stakeholder trust through effective management of complex, significant issues
 Proactively identify potential brand/company-related issues and develop issues management strategies
 Manage product issues and company-wide situations that may impact stakeholder trust and company reputation
 Partner closely with global Janssen communication, Media Relations, Workforce Communication and Strategy & Insights to ensure alignment
 Develop messages and serve as primary media spokesperson 
 Identify and train specific business leadership for various media opportunities

Build North American Communications and Public Affairs capabilities and excellence 
 Lead, develop and inspire direct reports
 Model and inspire a continuous improvement mindset to ensure function stays on the leading edge of communications, technology and other key trends
 Manage selection, hiring and on-boarding processes for new employees

Drive employee engagement and advocacy through powerful organizational communication 
 Partnering with business leaders, develop internal communications strategy and messages to inspire, engage, inform and align employees
 Partner closely with Workforce Communication, Human Resources and others to ensure aligned and seamless communication
 Drive outcomes by bringing a measurement approach to organizational communication, incorporate relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement


Qualifications
Education and Experience

 Bachelor's degree required
 Proven performer with 10+ years of experience managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency; direct health care / pharmaceutical / product experience preferred
 Proven track record of successful public relations/communications, corporate communication, product communication, public affairs and media relations 
 In-depth understanding of the Canadian pharmaceutical industry and healthcare policy environment
 Proven team/people leader with a focus on development; previous people management experience preferred
 Demonstrated ability to develop successful partnerships and influence in working with senior executives
 Experience in crisis / issues management
 Experience dealing with national and local lay, trade and social media as well as professional / trade and third-party organizations
 Demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories, with superior written, oral and visual communication abilities
 Deep understanding of digital and social platforms
 Demonstrated analytic ability
 Excellent judgment and collaboration skills
 Experience in managing project budgets / schedules 
 Ability to travel (10%); Includes limited domestic and international travel
 Fluency in French is considered a strong asset
