The Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS), Senior Leadership Team, serves as a key partner to the Global Head DPDS with overall strategic and operational responsibility for DPDS Operations, an organization of 3000 with an operating budget of $1.5B, which includes; Discovery Science, Janssen Biotherapeutics, Biotherapeutics Development, Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Development and Clinical Supply Chain. This position leads the DPDS Strategy and Operations which enables excellence within DPDS operations by transforming operational data into business insights, maximizing synergies across DPDS Functions and by co-ordinating the development of an overarching DPDS strategy supported by a continuous improvement framework.  The specific responsibilities of the DPDS Strategy and Operations leaders include leading development of strategic framework with the DPDS LT and expanded team, and execution of key initiatives to deliver DPDS long term goals and objectives, business analytics and leading cross-functional process improvement for DPDS. These efforts are for both internal as well as external initiatives.  Important in this effort is the ability to both challenge current inefficient processes, as well as develop new more efficient processes, to realize the strategic and operational goals of DPDS most expeditiously
 
 
RESPONSIBLITIES:
 
  • Develop strategic framework and execution of key initiatives to deliver DPDS (Discovery Science, Janssen Biotherapeutics, Biotherapeutics Development, Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Development and Clinical Supply Chain) long term goals and objectives;
  • Lead business transformation efforts; establish and provide cross-functional continuous improvement framework and lead projects to drive DPDS operational efficiency.
  • Partners to develop strategic framework and execution of key initiatives to deliver DPDS (Discovery Science, Janssen Biotherapeutics, Biotherapeutics Development, Small Molecule Pharmaceutical Development and Clinical Supply Chain) long term goals and objectives; lead DPDS business transformation efforts; establish and provide cross-functional continuous improvement framework and lead projects to drive operational efficiency.
  • Closely work with the Finance, PMO and Procurement organizations in addition to the DPDS functions to optimize DPDS delivery and execution of discovery and development programs. 
  • Identifies inefficient processes and transforms them with more efficient, compliant processes.
  • Plans and leads DPDSLT meetings to maximize team effectiveness
  • Lead DPDS Portfolio, Forecasting & Analytics strategy which develops, consolidates and provides portfolio costing, in support of DPDS Strategy and Operations and our discovery and development programs, in in collaboration with the DPDS Functions and Janssen R&D Therapeutic Areas, PMO and other Janssen R&D Functions.
  • Identifies opportunities for cross-functional synergies, streamlining across DPDS functions in portfolio planning / functional planning capabilities and implements changes to the support model as appropriate.
  • Serve as center of Excellence for DPDS functions for strategy, continuous improvement projects and promote the development of institutional knowledge and best practices for management and reporting.

Qualifications
  • A PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences with 15 years of experience or related field or MS in Pharmaceutical sciences with 10 years of relative experience
  • Managerial lead in complex initiatives
  • Demonstrated success at developing highly collaborative and effective relationships in complex, highly matrixed organization
  • Ability to present and commute to stakeholders
  • Individual must have Biologics and small molecule background
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead the execution of strategy and business transformation and initiatives
  • This candidate would have change management experience
  • Experience in assessing technology, external environment & R&D process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies
  • This person will have experience with Program, Project and Financial Management
  • Ability to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plans
