The Senior Scientist within our CVM Discovery Chemistry group located will support drug discovery of novel therapeutics for cardiovascular, fatty liver and/or diabetic kidney diseases.  The position will be lab-based and will involve the execution of complex synthetic operations as well as analysis and purification.  The Sr. Sci. will be proficient in the design and synthesis of compounds to modulate biological targets with the goal of driving a therapeutic project toward a drug candidate suitable for development recommendation.  The candidate will be expected to read the scientific literature broadly and proactively apply literature insights to current projects and the development of new ideas.  In addition to state-of-the-art knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, the successful candidate should have considerable knowledge/expertise in bridging disciplines and be familiar with the drug discovery process.  The candidate will collaboratively work in a matrix environment, present ideas, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences including scientific colleagues and senior leadership.

  • Ph.D. in synthetic Organic Chemistry with at least 3 years experience in the execution of medicinal chemistry projects in the pharmaceutical industry is required
  • Familiarity with all generally utilized spectroscopic methods and purification technologies is required
  • Working knowledge of standard chemical database tools such as Scifinder, Beilstein etc. is required
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects as evidenced by a track record of accomplishment and publications in peer reviewed journal is required
