The Engineering Technician IV (Software):
  • Reports to the MAKE Vision Controls and Automation Manager
  • Provides technical and process support for improvement to the production lines
  • Designs, develops, installs, and tests improvements – both hardware and software
  • Supports process improvements, addresses quality issues, provides protocol support, and manages deployment of enhancements to the line
  • Demonstrates mastery and is considered an expert/leader for key machine and/or software competencies across the entire manufacturing production line
  • Trains, certifies and independently designs and creates technical developmental plans
  • Is recognized and respected as an individual that has thorough technical competencies on production equipment and/or software
  • Supports engineering projects to improve the throughput, cycle time, and yield
  • Provides troubleshooting support to MAKE for complex automation equipment while adhering to all quality and safety procedures
  • Takes lead role in design reviews
  • Leads planning, development, and deployment activities as assigned
  • Supports and leads quality initiatives, such as tasks related to CAPAs and NCs as assigned
  • Trains MAKE SMEs (e.g. Process Technical Leads) on new technologies and develops troubleshooting / maintenance manuals on new equipment
  • Initiates and manages Improvement Projects
  • Utilizes Process Excellence tools
  • Maintains current knowledge and adhere to provisions of Engineering Standards / best practices, FDA, OSHA, GMP, MPs, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, equipment specifications and process specifications
  • Supports new products and new installations
  • Creates, reviews, and updates electro/mechanical drawings, operating manuals and procedures, maintenance and calibration procedures, and training manuals as required by the scope of projects that are assigned
  • Investigates alternative methods and procedures to reduce variability and improve equipment reliability
  • Assists in the design of experiments, under operational and developmental conditions, to decrease cycle times, increase yields, and improve machine reliability, repeatability and standardization
  • Provides technical training to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Operations on new equipment
  • Adheres to environmental policy and procedures and supports department environmental objectives; Vigilant for shop safety, environmental safety, product quality, ergonomics and hazardous energy control
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with J&J Standards of Leadership and has positive impact on the entire facility

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; Associates degree or equivalent is highly preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of college, trade, or military training in a technical discipline OR equivalent industrial experience emphasizing electro-mechanical, PLC, and pneumatics is highly preferred
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant technical/vocational industry experience is required
  • Maintenance or engineering experience with high volume production line environment is preferred
  • Working knowledge and/or troubleshooting skills in the following areas are preferred: Process improvement, PLC systems, electro/mechanical devices, robotic/servo systems, safety devices, equipment installation, debug and qualification, control circuitry development, electro-mechanical troubleshooting/repair, equipment prototyping, production start-up, equipment process development and mechanical devices, controller, mechanical fabrication design, electrical and mechanical prints.
  • Working knowledge of the following control systems is highly preferred: PLC systems, vision systems, lasers, Barcode readers, RFiD readers, Robots and networks
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal are required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks is required
  • Good organizational skills are required
  • Ability to work in an empowered work team environment is required
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the role is required and includes stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, light lifting (Up to 25 lbs.), grasping, hearing, visual acuity, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, crawling
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% (domestic and international)
  • Must be willing and able to work the "continuous operations" schedule which includes 12 hour rotating shifts (a few days on, a couple of days off, etc. which includes some, but not all, weekends) and overtime as needed 
  • 2 openings are for the day shift (6am - 6pm) and 2 openings are for the night shift (6pm - 6am)
