You are passionate about applying digital technology to orthopaedic surgery that improves the lives of patients and surgeons. As part of a cross-functional team, you identify clinical needs, track market trends, and monitor external technologies (e.g. computer vision, sensors, automation, robotics, wearables, artificial intelligence, augmented reality) across disciplines and industries that can be applied to “Digital Surgery”. You understand the interactions among multiple projects and can develop system-level requirements for upstream and downstream applications. Finally, you build prototypes and run simulations that realize early stage development and concretely assesses these holistic requirements.
The Research and Development Engineer II, Enabling Technologies will:
Design and develop digital orthopaedic solutions and complex systems, including software as a medical device and electromechanical systems.
Navigate ambiguity by applying engineering fundamentals and disciplined problem-solving techniques.
Analyze and evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to existing products.
Compose technical reports and presentations as well as participate in drafting design control documents for new product development.Act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
A minimum of BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline is required. Advanced degrees preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of related work experience in a regulated industry is strongly preferred
Intermediate experience with one or more computational tools (eg Python, Matlab, Labview, Abaqus, 3d Slicer, Mimics, etc) is required.
Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) is required.
Demonstrated experience completing projects and overcoming obstacles is required.
Relevant experience working with multi-disciplinary/cross functional teams is required.
Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audience is required.
Ability to apply design control practices for software as a medical device (SaaMD) or medical devices in accordance to internal and external policies is preferred.
Ability to strongly partner and influence without direct line authority is required.
This position is located in Warsaw, IN and may require up to 20% travel.
