The High-Throughput (HTP) Precursor Screening group is responsible for supporting the biologic discovery pipeline in JBIO. This group is also responsible for designing and implementing broadly-based biophysical analyses aimed at characterizing the identify, binding affinity, and epitope of large panels of biologics in a high-throughput manner.
The Scientist will focus on using screening methods such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange (HDX) epitope mapping, and other biophysical techniques to deliver high quality data that enable hit-to-lead candidate selection. Additionally, this individual will develop new methods through collaborations and employ established biophysical methods to characterize and determine the quality of therapeutic biologics for in vivo use that meet the target molecule profile for a given therapeutic indication. One key objective for this position is to explore optimal methods to predict the quality of next generation biologics. Work closely with colleagues from Antibody Generation and JBIO project teams to understand program needs and design studies appropriately. Cross-train in multiple biophysical techniques with emphasis on binding interaction determinations and higher-order structural characterizations.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Provide expertise in binding and structural characterizations to be applied to all early discovery projects.
Ensure that methods used are fit-for-purpose, state of the art and optimal for testing pipeline assets.
Utilize biosensor instrumentation (i.e. Biacore, ProteOn, Octet, LSA, MASS-2, etc.).
Conduct hands-on biophysical measurements in the laboratory.
Communicate results to program teams and management.
Demonstrate knowledge in both theoretical and practical aspects of ligand-macromolecule kinetic and binding concepts based on chemical principles.
A minimum of 3 years of scientific experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with a Master’s degree or a minimum of 1 year of scientific experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with a Ph.D. is required.
- Experience with biosensor instrumentation is required.
- Experience with Mass Spectrometry is preferred.
Experience with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)/Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC)/Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)/Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEX), automation and bioinformatics is preferred.
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements is required.
A strong track record as an innovator as demonstrated by publications or patents is required.
