This is a technical leadership position within the Biophysics group of the Biologics Development Sciences (BDS) Department, which is accountable to project teams and management for the quality, appropriateness, and scientific rigor of experimental data. The Biophysics group is responsible for characterizing and analyzing large molecule biotherapeutic drug candidates pertaining to all Janssen’s Therapeutic Areas, from early discovery through NME declaration.
Within Biophysics, the Target Discovery and Molecular Tools QC team is responsible for supporting target identification and validation studies in various tissues. The group also ensures that all tool protein reagents are well-behaved from a biophysical perspective.
The Scientist will focus on using MALDI-IMS to assess tissue distribution of target isoforms and post-translational modifications of targets in healthy and diseased tissues. This scientist will be responsible for cross-training other scientists in the MALDI-IMS technology to expand our group capabilities so that there is technical redundancy for this highly critical workflow. This scientist will be a subject matter expert for Janssen on the design of MALDI-IMS studies, as well as the interpretation of imaging data. These datasets may be used in patent filings to support our therapeutic intellectual property. This individual’s effort will directly support portfolio advancement and lead selection based on the criteria outlined in a Target Molecule Profile put in place by Janssen Biotherapeutics and the requirement outlined by the Therapeutic Areas to achieve the therapeutic needs of the program. Biophysical research studies will focus mainly in the early target validation and discovery phase.
