Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies is recruiting for a Senior Manager, Precision Marketing Data Compliance & Brand Safety to be located in New Brunswick, NJ or New York, NY

Reporting to Senior Director, Media & Connections – TBX, the Senior Manager, Precision Marketing Data Compliance & Brand Safety will ensure that the digital data that powers precision/personalized marketing efforts is acquired and utilized in a manner fitting with the standards of Johnson & Johnson.  They will also ensure that media placements across all channels are aligned to content guidelines and appropriate environments, and that digital media verification processes & protocols are in place to combat ad-fraud and work to mitigate legal, ethical, or reputational risk.

The scope of the role is global, covering J&J Consumer and Vision Care brands.  The person in role will partner closely with Global Analytics and other key internal and external stakeholders across the ecosystem of Precision & Personalized Marketing capability and Media execution (eg: Regions/Markets, Agencies, Data-AdTech Partners, Privacy/Compliance, Legal, Procurement, and IT Risk Management). 

As the industry shift towards digital continues, this role will be a critical component of the media ecosystem, and a key enabler of overall digital & media effectiveness.  Ensuring we meet consumer & patient expectations by delivering relevant and meaningful brand experiences is paramount; this role will help enable that delivery with a focus on two critical areas – reflecting a new era of how brands and companies engage with consumers in a digitally driven marketing world:

Precision & Personalized Marketing Data Compliance:

  • Help shape our approach as we work to build transformational data capabilities to fuel precision & personalized marketing globally, ensuring we mitigate risk and hold our partners responsible for meeting our standards
  • Ensure that our approach to data reflects the J&J Credo, and our promise to consumers while maintaining our competitive advantage by driving improvement in data-driven consumer-focused digital ecosystem performance, boosting effectiveness and efficiency across paid and owned media
  • Demonstrate passion and knowledge about the use consumer data to create more meaningful experiences - reaching the right person, at the right moment, with the right content
  • Understand the mechanics of people-based marketing fueled by data and will ensure J&J adheres to regulations and maintains the highest ethical standards in how we acquire and use consumer data to drive our media communications (across 1st, 2nd, or 3rd party data)
  • Ensure escalation protocols are in place and executed (as necessary) in the event of data breech and/or violation of terms – internal or external
Brand Safety:
  • Lead overall efforts to ensure J&J brand messages are delivered and experienced aligned to content fitting with the core values or Johnson & Johnson
  • Establish and deliver governance processes to ensure adherence to standards and media content guidelines across all channels globally
  • Manage deployment and governance of digital verification efforts, including approach, process, and technology --- combating ad-fraud and maximizing the safety of our brands across the digital space
  • Ensure escalation protocols are in place and executed (as necessary) in the event of J&J brand advertising aligned to content perceived inappropriate


  • Understand global data privacy regulations, consumer sentiment and overall trends in all major Johnson & Johnson markets and the application to marketing use of consumer data
  • Serve as the expert on data compliance and risk mitigation related to consumer data utilized for media (audience segmentation, targeting, or analytics) and develop well-connected network within media industry to understand how other companies are approaching data acquisition and usage
  • Develop processes and governance approaches for ensuring data collection and usage adhere to Johnson & Johnson documented standards – across media data use cases
  • As markets deploy data-strategies to accelerate precision & personalization efforts, partner with Analytics, Procurement, and Legal to ensure appropriate contractual terms are in place to minimize risk to J&J
  • Continually evolve and contemporize data acquisition and use standards for the company, as landscape evolves
  • Partner with IT on developing any tools needed to monitor or enforce data standards
  • Work with enterprise Privacy & Compliance stakeholders to create training and education for internal and external partners involved in media planning, buying, or execution --- to ensure practices across the portfolio align with standards
  • Vet potential data partners and provide “score” to internal teams assessing collection and use of consumer data to determine if it meets Johnson and Johnson standards.  Ensure contractual terms reflect adherence to standards
  • Design manner to collect, validate and deliver required information and records upon request by Legal and Compliance for ligation or regulatory needs within specified timeframes
  • Lead annual review and alignment of global media content guidelines
  • Active management of “do not air” lists and digital content exclusions, working with Media Agency to ensure implementation and adherence across all media channels globally
  • Manage technology partnerships that enable brand safety efforts; stay connected to the external landscape to bring new opportunities and technologies to bear  

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree in Marketing, Marketing Management, or Business Administration strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience is required
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in media planning and buying with specific experience in data driven people-based marketing, programmatic media, consulting or related fields is required
  • Experience working within CPG marketing is a plus
  • Possess highly strategic business knowledge and acumen with an awareness of media trends is required
  • In-depth knowledge of consumer-based data sources available with a proven track record working with data companies to build partnerships is required
  • Experience with privacy and security or related work experience is strongly preferred. This includes a thorough understanding of how privacy relates to marketing through the lens of: business drivers, legal requirements, marketing implementation, technical controls, and operational risk tolerance
  • Experience in GDPR with a global organization is strongly preferred (with knowledge of current and pending regulations ex-EU)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional partners and upper management to impact decision-making; Willingness to “have an opinion” backed up by insight and the confidence to influence key stakeholders in meetings and one to one basis
  • Outstanding and clear communication skills; Ability to think analytically to understand complex or ambiguous problems or issues and articulate solutions/conclusions clearly and concisely
  • Agile and able to change behavior across range of situations, strong change management capabilities
  • Strategic business partnership: cross-functional leadership, understanding of organizational dynamics, influencing skills, and innovation experience is required     
  • Position may require up to 10% domestic travel
