The Senior Manager, Data Operations and Engineering, will oversee the data operations and engineering activities for Janssen’s growing sales and marketing cloud-based data environment, including ongoing operations for the Commercial Data Processing (CDP) environment.  In addition, they will oversee the support and expansion of the Commercial Effectiveness (CE) group’s analytics workbench, and the development of data engineering to support machine learning and data science teams.  The Senior Manager will lead an extended external team actively managing the day-to-day operations of the CDP environment, and will be responsible for the ongoing execution of the mission-critical sales processes its supports to enable the Janssen sales organization across Janssen’s NA therapeutic areas.  The Senior Manager will assist in articulating the forward-looking vision for Janssen’s cloud-based analytics strategy, identifying, prototyping and introducing new technology tools to advance CE analytics and data science and enabling the DevOps capabilities.  

 

The Senior Manager will monitor/evolve necessary Quality Control processes for Commercial Data Processing (CDP) environment. She/he will provide regular communications and reporting regarding status of CDP environment across all TAs (i.e. delays, enhancements, availability, etc..), provide oversight and governance of the CDP platform, act as the primary contact for the data processing vendors and internal IT and Commercial Excellence team.  She/he will be responsible for the ingestion and accurate processing of syndicated and non-syndicated data from receipt to distribution of end product for all NA Pharma companies.  She/he will work closely with the data stewards to manage the business rules and gain consensus for update/changes in the central business rule environment. She/he will be responsible to monitor transfer of sales data extracts to outside vendors adhering to proper security processes that have been established.  She/he will apply relevant analytical techniques to datasets to produce summary statistics and actionable insights. The Senior Manager will work closely with the data steward teams acting as liaison between IT and Business Partners to proactively resolve data issues and efficiently manage data as an asset.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

The Senior Manager will manage and develop policies related to Data Processing, including assessing and monitoring the processing of end to end activities of Commercial Data Processing environment. Establishing and executing proper data governance to assure accurate and reliable information:

 

  • Promoting and implementing Data Governance policies and standards

  • Ensuring high data quality

  • Being the “go to” person within the business group for data related needs, queries and issues

  • Primary contact for I/T and appropriate vendors, including scheduling, UAT, Issue resolution

  • Monitor/Define QC processes for CDP environment

  • Detailed understanding of business rules and operational processing activities

  • Communicate status of CDP environment across all TAs (i.e. delays, enhancements, availability)

  • Oversight for Governance of the CDP platform/system

 

The Senior Manager will collaborate with data stewards on data validation and data coordination activities for both field-based and internal reports/systems:

 

  • Perform impact analysis of data events/changes on various commercial operations processes (e.g. Incentive Compensation, Call Planning etc.) and engage business process owners to align on the action plan

  • Lead with IT / Vendor the implementation of a self-service analytics and data platform

  • Evaluate new data sources to determine benefits in terms of business insights for increase sales

  • Negotiate data purchases as needed

 

The Senior Manager will lead and manage the data engineering track for the Commercial Data Processing environment.  Assist senior leadership team in evolving and executing the data strategy for the CE analytics and data sciences team:

 

  • Enablement of Data Analytics Workbench for data machine learning algorithms

  • Supplying of raw and curated and processed data for machine learning engineers

  • Oversee the build and deployment of data pipelines on top of our CDP platform

  • Establish and work in Devops mode width internal and external team(s) to deploy product features

  • Make recommendations on emerging data sources that may provide advanced insights, competitive advantage and help form our future data strategy

  • Advise business groups on best data sources to leverage business question or insights



Qualifications

Education

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.

 

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the healthcare/ Life sciences field is required

  • Strong Business and Data Analysis skills with focus on pharmaceutical commercial operations across one or more relevant therapeutic areas is required

  • Cutting-edge expertise on cloud-based technologies supporting big data management, modern data pipelines, and integrated real-time analytics is required

  • Strong cloud-centric technical, performance improvement and debugging capability is required

  • Strong understanding of data lifecycle, data quality, metadata and data management

  • Ability to lead project groups and manage projects independently

  • Ability to recommend demand prioritization based on business value and impact assessment

  • Strong communication skills especially while dealing with diverse functional groups

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Knowledge of data management related SoPs and workflows

  • Knowledge of data governance best practices

  • Knowledge of Sales and Marketing data in Life Sciences (Xponent, DDD, SPP)

 

Preferences

  • Experience with building and supporting data and ETL pipelines in Cloud is preferred

  • Understanding of Machine Learning Algorithms in Sales & Marketing space

  • Knowledge of Python/SPARK/EMR/RedShift technologies

  • Knowledge of data querying/BI tools (Tableau, QlikSense)
