The Janssen Postdoctoral Program is a key initiative for Janssen Research & Development LLC and helps early career scientists gain the training and experience needed to further their careers, while addressing the needs of global healthcare.  Janssen Post-Docs work side-by-side with Janssen senior scientists on innovative research projects.  They will have the opportunity to present and publish their work, while also learning the functional role of scientists in the pharmaceutical industry and receive valuable career advice from mentors.


To support this initiative, we are recruiting a US-based Post-Doc Engagement Manager to be a part of the global strategy, planning, operations and evaluation of the program.  The manager will have accountability for:

  • Develop and lead a recruitment strategy together with University Recruiting; specifically events, conferences, universities, professional organizations and affinity groups that supports the needs of US-based functions recruiting post-docs
  • Develop and support externally facing Post-Doc program communications with university and medical center partners for increased visibility of our Post-Doctoral program
  • Create deep relationships with top-tier universities, medical centers, and acedemic advisors, to promote the Janssen post-doctoral brand
  • Oversee the alignment of scientific expectations for US-based post-docs
  • Own the development and use of the Post-Doctoral proposal template by the functions
  • Conduct a yearly review of how individual functions are aligning their post-doc hiring and project selection with Janssen Post-Doctoral scientific expectations
  • Run a monthly meeting with Functional post-doc heads to discuss any issues that are occurring in the program, as well as discuss ideas for making the program stronger for the future
  • Align local US programs and play a leading role in organizing two local annual symposia (one in PA and one in CA)
  • Faciliatate a monthly meeting for post-docs focused on career development
    • Have invited speakers to talk about career progression (Janssen employees, ex-Janssen post-docs,etc)
    • Presentations of functional overviews to allow post-docs to understand how the different components of Janssen fit into the drug development pipeline
    • Maintain a SP database to archive presentations from these meetings
  • Align US program with EU program where appropriate, be key contact between the programs and contribute to the development and execution of an annual global symposium.
  • Identify training and professional development needs for the US-based post-docs, and develop or organize appropriate rolling training schedule
  • Create and maintain internal and external post-doc alumni communities including a Post-Doctoral database
  • Partner with all groups and Janssen leaders for the overall process including evaluation
  • Provide placement assistance for exceptional post-doc talent based on business need
  • Oversee / maintain a public Post-Doctoral SP to house information for a variety of efforts
    • Archive post-doc symposium documents
    • House the post-doc database of current and past post-doc information
    • House career development presentations

  • A PhD degree is required.
  • Post-Doctoral training required.
  • Pharmaceutical or Biotech Industry and/or Project Management experience preferred.
  • The position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and ultimately contribute to a leading post-doctoral program within a global organization. 
  • The position will require <20% domestic and potentially international travel.
