The Assistant Scientist provides support to the growth and strategic business objectives of McNeil Consumer Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson with a focus on supply chain initiatives to identify new supply opportunities and/or enhance or improve or maintain the current supply chain.

Performs assigned scientific experiments and routine tasks according to established procedures
Coordinates and/or executes the chemical and physical testing of stability, process development, and/or process validation samples
Works with the Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist, or Manager to set up accelerated stability programs
Conducts laboratory investigations
Recommends minor modifications to existing systems, processes, techniques, or programs for improvement
Active involvement in Technical Operations committees, processes, and taskforces
Develops organizational understanding and awareness through exposure to diverse projects, products, and teams
Operates current laboratory equipment and instruments and adheres to laboratory safety, SOPs and GMP/GLP regulations
Collates, analyzes, and processes data. Reviews data and documents pertinent to their technical area of focus
Supports accurate record keeping and documentation.
Supports the development of technical documentation supporting Technical Operations activities
Provides technical support within and beyond Technical Operations related to their technical area of focus
Ensures quality and compliance in all actions by:
Attending GMP training
Adhering to strict compliance with procedures
Exercising the highest level of integrity in the tasks performed
In a timely and prompt manner, identifying, reporting, and seeking correction for deviations noted in the workplace
Adopting a behaviour of employee involvement and commitment to doing the job right the first time

Education and Experience:
Minimum of B.Sc., education
0-2 years experience within the pharmaceutical or related industry (GMP environment preferred)

Strong oral and written communication skills
Understanding of Good Manufacturing Processes
General knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical research and development
Strong aptitude for problem solving and mechanics
Good documentation practices
Computer skills (Empower systems experience an asset)
Occasional requirement to work on an off-shift to support project requirements
Exposure to dust, fumes and noise
Corrosive, flammable, and toxic material handling
Use of Personal Protective Equipment may be required

Physical/Auditory and Visual Demands:
Disposition of laboratory waste
Heavy lifting may be required
High repetition of some activities
Requirement for long periods of sustained visual focus and concentration
