Associate Scientist I/II: Neuroscience
We are seeking a highly motivated associate scientist with experience in neuroscience/pharmacology to join our Neuroscience Discovery research team, devoted to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for CNS disorders. The successful candidate will support discovery projects by running assays during lead optimization. A background in pharmacology and/or neuroscience or demonstrated ability to run assays is critical to be successful in this role.
The ideal candidate will have some of the following skills: general cell culture techniques (recombinant cells and native cells such as neurons and glia), practical approaches to interrogate ligand-receptor interaction by binding techniques, setting up functional assays for targets (GPCRs, ion channels, transporters, enzymes), prior experience in assay miniaturization, robotics and automation to increase throughput and experience in biochemical techniques such as immunohistochemistry & western blot. Prior experience in studying brain and spinal cord biology (dissection, cryostat use and tissue sectioning) is a definite plus.
Experimental work is an extremely important part of the role and the successful candidate will spend close to full time at the bench generating data. It is essential that the successful candidate enjoys bench science, is scientifically curious, is self-motivated, but also a strong team player, and can demonstrate a high level of productivity. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact well with peers and collaborators, and strong written and oral communication skills are vital to success in this role. To be successful in the position, the candidate must be organized, and practice good laboratory principles including detailed notebook entry of experiments.
The qualified candidate will have:
- M.S. Degree in pharmacology, neuroscience, or biology with approximately 1-5 years of experience post graduate degree; B.S. Degree (same majors) will also be considered but 3-8 years of experience is needed.
- Prior experience in a drug discovery setting is not required but will provide a definite advantage, provided the candidate can demonstrate the skills sought for this position.
- This position will be in La Jolla, CA and may require <10% travel.
