At Janssen Research & Development we are embracing developments in cell biology and data sciences to better understand and predict the biological activity of small molecules and other therapeutic modalities that are aimed at addressing unmet medical need. Microscopy images or transcriptomics profiles acquired at high throughput scale, provide the high dimensional biology datasets that empower such an approach.  
We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and passionate talent to strengthen our efforts in deploying high dimensional biology approaches to advance drug discovery programs.  We are looking for an excellent scientist with experience in microscopy and high content imaging to join our team.

Roles & Responsibilities

•Take full responsibility for the imaging instrumentation employed by our biological discovery team, including high-throughput high-content microscopes. 
•Act as the go-to expert for the selection of imaging modalities and imaging markers, and the design of the corresponding workflows. Collaborate closely with cell biologists on the design and implementation of new, highly informative imaging assays and experiments. 
•Actively connect with our wider therapeutic area research teams to educate people about the potential of the technology, and to assess new opportunities to deploy imaging technologies to provide effective answers to critical research questions. 
•Maintain an awareness of, and critically evaluate, innovative trends in automated imaging of cellular assay systems, such as new technologies in 3D imaging, channel multiplexing (4i), live cell imaging, and super-resolution imaging. 
•Troubleshoot instrument functionality, image quality and experiments. Set up analysis to track performance over time and plan technical interventions when required.
•Participate in the design and management of workflows for large volumes of imaging data, together with our IT team. 
•Manage the business relationship with instrument vendors and internal partners such as IT and engineering. 


•PhD or Master’s degree and 5+ years of experience in biology, bioengineering, (bio)physics or a related discipline with a strong knowledge of microscopy and analysis. 
•Demonstrated background in and understanding of optical microscopy, with technical insights in both the hardware and software aspects. Experience in the application of automated microscopy (high content screening) at large scale is preferable.
•Basic knowledge of cell biology and biological research. Good understanding of biological experiment design. Experience in a life sciences research environment, either industry or academic, is preferable. 
•Basic knowledge of image analysis and the effective design of high-content content imaging experiments to enable robust, automated analysis at scale. 
•Basic knowledge of experimental statistics, and of relevant data analysis environments such as Excel, Prism, R, Python. 
•Good IT skills.
•Good reporting skills, both verbally and written
