Scientist/Engineer, Cellular Assay Miniaturization and Lab Automation

Janssen Research & Development seeks to drive innovation and deliver groundbreaking medicines for the treatment of diseases in six therapeutic areas: neuroscience, cardiovascular diseases and metabolism, infectious diseases, immunology, oncology and pulmonary hypertension. At Janssen Research & Development we are embracing developments in cell biology and data sciences to better understand and predict the biological activity of small molecules and other therapeutic modalities that are aimed at addressing unmet medical need. Microscopy images or transcriptomics profiles acquired at high throughput scale, provide the high dimensional biology datasets that empower such an approach. 
We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and passionate talent to strengthen our efforts in deploying high dimensional biology approaches to advance drug discovery programs. We are looking for an excellent scientist or engineer with experience in automation of research experiments to join our team.    

Key Roles & Responsibilities

•Implement innovative, efficient and effective automated instrumentation platforms in support of our High Content Biology Screening activities.
•In collaboration with cell biologists, convert the manual workflows of new cellular assays for execution as automated workflows. Program automated workflows and optimize them to ensure consistent high data quality.
•Take technical and operational ownership of multiple robotic platforms. Perform project management of new implementations done in collaboration with facility services, engineering and IT.  
•Analyze system performance and plan to safeguard business continuity. Perform optimization and troubleshooting of instruments and automated screening processes. 

Required Qualifications:

•PhD, Master or equivalent qualification with a minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory automation environment. 
•Strong skills in automation and robotics, with demonstrated in depth hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, hardware and software. 
•Demonstrable experience of cell culture, cell treatment, experimental design and workload management. 
•Experience in interacting with instrument and software vendors is highly sought.
•Experience with imaging platform including high content Imaging.
•Excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to responsibly complete tasks on time. 
•Ability to work well within a team and the ability to train colleagues. 
•The successful candidate should demonstrate significant project management and leadership skills, be self-motivated, well-organized, and be able to think strategically.

•Experience with high volume, high quality cell culture approaches.
•Experience with more complex biological models, such 3D spheroids and organoids, live cell imaging, mixed cell cultures, primary cell cultures.
•Expertise in cardiovascular or infectious diseases, immunology, neuroscience or oncology.
•Prior experience with Thermo or High Res Bio automation is advantageous.
