At Janssen Research & Development we are embracing developments in cell biology and data sciences to better understand and predict the biological activity of small molecules and other therapeutic modalities that are aimed at addressing unmet medical need. Microscopy images or transcriptomics profiles acquired at high throughput scale, provide the high dimensional biology datasets that empower such an approach. We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and passionate talent to strengthen our efforts in deploying high dimensional biology approaches to advance drug discovery programs. We are looking for an excellent scientist with experience in cell biology and high content imaging to join our team.
The Scientist, Cell Biology and High Content Biology Screening will:
•Focus on the use of in-vitro cellular models, for both large-scale phenotypic drug discovery and the in-depth characterization of the biological activity of small molecules.
•Take the lead in the development, optimization and validation of in vitro models, as well as their transfer to robotic systems for high content screening.
•Develop innovative cell-based approaches to screening and hit triaging, including for example co-culture systems, iPSC-derived models, and 3D cell culture models.
•Advance our use of data-rich measurement technologies such as high-content imaging and large-scale transcriptome analysis, with a goal of generating high-quality data at large scale.
•Effectively work in a multi-disciplinary team environment in early drug discovery, in close collaboration with chemists, molecular biologists, data scientists, and engineers, to select the most promising compounds in early Hit-to-Lead programs.
•Analyze data and present results at program team meetings.
•Attend and present data at in-house seminars and external scientific conferences.
•Publish research in high-quality journals as appropriate.
•Prioritize work and manage several projects.
•PhD in Cell Biology, Biochemistry with 4+ years or a MS degree with 8+ years or a BS degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical industry environment.
•Experience in designing and developing high-content cell-based screening assays and phenotypic assays, with a good understanding of data analysis, QC and visualization is required.
•Significant experience using state-of the art cell-based assay development techniques is preferred.
•Experience in running experiments in a moderate or throughput setting (e.g. using the 384/1536w microtiter plate format) is preferred.
•Excellent written communication, verbal communication, and oral presentation skills are required.
