We are recruiting for a Government Affairs & Policy Manager who will optimize our business by cultivating s sustainable partnership approach with key external partners, including Government Ministers, Civil Servants, Parliamentarians, Political Advisers, Think Tanks and Academia.


Key responsibilities:

  • Design, lead and manage the implementation of allocated Government Affairs plans/projects - which are to be coordinated with the communications strategy.

  • Interpret key developments in government health, economic, science and innovation policy, identify the opportunities and threats to the business and develop appropriate plans to compliantly engage in health policy development in line with our strategic and commercial objectives.

  • Support the Director of Communications to develop communications programs to deliver campaign objectives

  • Provide expert counsel and identify specific actions related to government policy for identified issues to Johnson & Johnson senior management.

  • Develop briefing documents that highlight policy issues to ensure consistent approved messaging when engaging with any external partners

  • Develop effective networks and relationships with key external partners including, but not restricted to Ministers, Civil Servants, Parliamentarians, Political Advisers and Officials, Think Tanks and Academia

  • Work with all levels of Johnson & Johnson to develop and convey corporate policy issues pertinent to Johnson & Johnson in the UK and articulate Johnson & Johnson’s response to those issues.

  • Raise the profile of J&J to positively build an understanding of the company's impact on the healthcare environment in the UK.

  • To Support the Senior Director of Government Affairs & Policy on activities relating to global VIP visits and high level Summit meetings

  • Support the Senior Director of Government Affairs & Policy to build and execute a coherent, integrated government affairs strategy for Johnson & Johnson, aligned to Corporate priorities.

  • Lead on the development of Johnson & Johnson case studies to demonstrate investment and dedication to the UK.



  • Experience of policy development
  • Strong technical competencies relevant to government affairs

  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into comprehensive briefing documents

  • Knowledge of Parliamentary processes
  • Knowledge of the workings of Whitehall and the relevant Government departments,

  • Ideally experience within the Department of Health and Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

  • Excellent people and writing skills
  • Collaboration and cross-functional team working

  • Negotiating skills
  • Project management skills
