Janssen Sciences Ireland UC established its operation in Ringaskiddy in 2005 on a 100 acre site with an investment of €500 million. For more than 25 years we have been a global leader in the field of biomedicines, in particular pioneering monoclonal antibody technology a cutting-edge approach to producing medicines that launched  a new generation of products to treat immune related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and plaque psoriasis.

 

The facility in Ringaskiddy is operational producing biomedicines for both the treatment of immune related diseases and new and innovative cancer treatments.

In 2017, Janssen Sciences Ireland UC announced that it is to invest more than €300 million in the expansion of its manufacturing plant that will create more than 200 new jobs.

 

Janssen Sciences Ireland are now recruiting for a Director of Operations to join the Cork facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior professional to head up the Operations Team and report directly into the General Manager for Janssen. This opportunity is a direct result of strong growth and development of the Janssen site in Ringaskiddy which continues to grow and expand.

Position summary:

This position is responsible for leading the Operations Department within Janssen Sciences Ireland UC (JSI).   This includes but is not limited to:

  • Lead all activities within the Operations Department function in compliance with corporate, cGMP, EHS, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the Manufacture of pharmaceutical product to cGMP and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that activities within the Operations Department are planned and executed to meet business needs, customer needs and the Operations Department schedule.
  • Providing leadership and direction to colleagues within the Operations Department and provide leadership to the site through the Site Leadership team (SLT).
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and open communication.
  • Ensure that personnel are recruited and trained to support activities in line with business needs and site recruitment plan.
  • Support all activities in other functional areas and operation of site business through Cross- Functional teams.

General Scope of Responsibilities;

  • Lead by example and strive to perform to high standards at all times in compliance with Credo and Global Leadership Profile. Act as a role model for all colleagues within the Operations Department and other site departments.
  • Responsible and accountable for assuring the safe accomplishment of job activities in the Operations Department and following good environmental practices and procedures. Commit to and demonstrate safe behavior in every activity.
  • Lead all activities within the Operations Department function in compliance with corporate, cGMP, EHS, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Providing leadership and direction to colleagues within Operations Department to ensure that goals, targets and expectations are communicated clearly.
  • Respond to all concerns/issues raised by colleagues in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Translate business cascade goals into departmental and individual goals and communicate goals to team clearly.
  • Monitor manufacturing, quality and EHS metrics/critical metrics to ensure that
  • Ensure that personnel are recruited trained and developed to support activities in line with business needs site recruitment plan and succession plan.
  • Provide support to Project Commissioning, Qualification and Validation activities and actively support the Technology Transfer process for each new product
  • Ensuring that colleagues within the Operations Department are provided with appropriate training to perform their assigned duties to meet the business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Pursue opportunities to develop colleagues within the Operations Department and other functional areas.
  • Ensure that housekeeping standards in the Operations Department facility are maintained to a very high standard of cGMP readiness.
  • Ensure that documentation standards within Operations Department are maintained to a very high standard of cGMP readiness.
  • With Site Leadership Team develop organization structure and culture to ensure site operates through a Process Driven Model.
  • Develop and deliver business plans to meet supply chain requirements and a lean Operations Department.
  • Delegate responsibility and empower reports where appropriate to ensure personal effectiveness.
  • Deputize for other Site Leaders and General Manager as appropriate
  • Actively participate and lead Asset Management projects with other J&J sites. Travel to other Janssen, J&J and other external sites as required for business needs.
  • departmental goals and targets are achieved if not exceeded.
  • Provide mentoring sessions and feedback to team and individuals to enable them to perform effectively.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and open communication. Listen to, and involve colleagues in departmental decisions, goal setting etc. Seek feedback from colleagues to ensure that needs are being met and to ensure proper focus of resources.


Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience - Essential;

  • Third level qualification in science or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience within a pharmaceutical ideally or GMP regulated Operations Department environment.
  • Experience in management of people and resources in an Operations Department Department/ Operations Department function.

Desirable;

  • Operations Department experience within a Life Sciences or biopharmaceutical environment
  • Experience of technology transfer and process optimization.
  • Specific experience of biotech manufacture covering fermentation and purification technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in lean Operations Department and process excellence methodologies.
