Job Description:
Job Title (India Specific): Director - Medical Affairs
Sector: Pharmaceuticals
Job Location: Mumbai
People reporting: Yes (Leads a team of approx. 30 Medical Affairs professionals)
Reporting to: Managing Director
 
Position Summary:
Directs the operational function in medical affairs to achieve organizational objectives.
Responsible for the design, development and implementation of programs related to educational, promotional and reporting materials for company products.
This is a people manager role, and the incumbent will be responsible for engaging leading specialists, KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) and associations, handling Medical Affairs projects, managing responses to scientific queries, maintaining compliance to HCBI and analyzing treatment paradigms.
Job Responsibilities
  • Manages the design and implementation plans of medical affairs program, including identification of critical paths, budget development and tracking of all projects.
  • Coordinates close cooperation of LOC Medical Affairs team with medical teams working internationally
  • Establishes accountability for assignments.
  • Oversees high scientific quality communication with leading specialists, KOLs, surgeons, regulatory agencies and medical societies to communicate value of J&J products, host formal discussions and understand key needs, key value drivers, practical treatment patterns, scientific activities within Super Speciality areas of Oncology, Immunology, Neurology and also Mass Speciality areas of Metabolics, Dermatology, Pain, Vertigo and Migraine. Identify industry trends, clinical/ medical insights and global standards of care to deliver quality products/ solutions
  • Leads collaboration with investigators and sites to optimize execution of interventional and non-interventional Medical Affairs studies (whenever required).
  • Oversees response to unsolicited scientific queries of customers for approved products and products/ indications in development based on Medical Affairs and medical information documents
  • Acts as an internal medical consultant to provide expert medical support to professional, Legal/ HCC, Finance and HR
  • Contributes to developing vision and executes initiatives for analyzing treatment paradigms, discussing J&J products, supporting regulatory approval/ clearance, health technology assessment, monitoring patients’ treatment trends as well as studies in therapeutic areas and engagement of leading specialists (physicians, pharmacists, hospital managers and board members of healthcare/caregivers societies) and stakeholders
  • Initiates, develops and executes Medical Affairs projects and interprets impact analysis and feedback reports
  • Develops, plans, finalizes budgets for and oversees execution of Medical Education programs and activities
  • Organizes and participates in Advisory Boards in cooperation with other MAF team members
  • Responsible for ensuring product and medical knowledge of regional team members within assigned region(s) is on par and of right quality and providing medical training and scientific support on the job when necessary
  • Supports Country/ Regional business leaders by providing medical and scientific expertise to drive optimal business strategic direction, including product launches, key scientific meetings, relationship management with leading research physicians and critical evaluation of current literature as well as competitive activity
  • Checks scientific data provided locally to HCPs/ authorities/ regulators for compliance to regulations
  • Responsible for team compliance to HCBI regulations during all activities
  • Reviews and approves medical, promotional, market access and other informational material for country/ region consumption


Qualifications
Minimum required Qualification / Experience / Exposures
  • MD, MBBS (preferred from a government institution)
  • At least 15-18 years relevant experience
  • Must be aware of the code of ethics of medical practitioners as decided by MCI/NMC. Also, knowledge on different code of medico marketing practices as implied by the Govt. of India will be required.
  • A demonstrated track record of success within Medical Affairs and/or clinical R&D.
  • In-depth knowledge of study methodology, study data reviews and analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of study execution, benefit risk management and regulatory affairs
  • Proven ability to act as a medical spokesperson for external audiences is required. Also required is strong experience developing and managing strategic relationships with medical experts/opinion leaders
