Janssen Research & Development is recruiting a Senior Statistician for the Translational Medicine and Early Development Statistics group to be located at Beerse, Belgium.  The scope of the TMEDS group focuses on research conducted during the discovery, development and early clinical phase of drug development, before the compound advances to larger confirmatory clinical trials. 
Job Description: 
Within the department of Translational Medicine and Early Development Statistics (TMEDS) at Janssen R&D, we are currently seeking for an enthusiastic collaborator (m/f) with a broad knowledge of biostatistics and bioinformatics to strengthen the statistical team in Beerse supporting drug discovery in oncology.  The successful candidate will support translational biomarker studies and invitro and invivo experiments supporting the oncology discovery portfolio.  He/she will contribute to making informed decisions through his/her analytical mindset, analysis skills, experimental design suggestions and through appropriate reporting and communication of data evidence for research and development  needs at Janssen.  The candidate will collaborate within cross-functional teams and with external contractors.  Participation in scientific activities in the local professional community can be expected. 
  • A good knowledge of biostatistics and bioinformatics are essential to this role, as is the use of statistics in decision-making and the eagerness to learn the underlying science and business.   
  • The successful candidate will serve as initial consultation contact for new projects in the drug discovery portfolio, maintains and grows customer base and builds loyal relationships with customers.
  • He/she will play a crucial role in bridging the gap from preclinical experiments to first-in-human trials and the use of preclinical information to establish a safe first dose in humans
  • He/She will assume independent, professional responsibility for all phases of a project request from beginning through completion with minimal supervision needed.
  • He/She is able to manage multiple projects.
  • He/she documents projects in sufficient detail for reproducibility
  • He/She enjoys building long-term collaborative relationships with research investigators, is proactive and communicates and promotes the use of good statistical practices and software to ensure data integrity and reproducibility. 

  • PhD degree in Bioinformatics or Biostatistics, or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or Biostatistics or related field plus 2 years minimum relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of R and/or SAS
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Focused on project goals (milestones and deliverables)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to build relationships, act as change agent, and adapt to rapidly changing organizational & business issues.
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking
  • Language skills: Fluent English
