Supply Chain Innovation Fellow/Senior Director Asia
 
This role provides the opportunity to be involved in the creation of a world class technology hub and future lab ‘spokes’ across Asia that will support the delivery of the new technology capabilities for J&J’s future health and well-being products. We are looking for a multi-disciplinary, commercially savvy Innovation leader who can help us define, build and drive the development of the Advanced Supply Chain Technology Labs (Labs) in Asia. The Labs will be the focal point to connect external and internal technology capabilities, identifying and demonstrating integrated solutions to showcase the new-to-world cyber-physical technologies that will create J&J’s future competitive edge.
 
About J&J’s Supply Chain Innovation Center
 
As part of J&J’s global network the Asia Center will create transformational value for J&J’s businesses through innovation. A state-of-the-art facility will be assembled in Singapore to develop world class digitalization capabilities and provide the integration expertise for J&J’s core business sectors; pharmaceuticals, medical devices and consumer goods. The Asia Labs will host a highly innovative environment using flexible project-based teams to accelerate and grow J&J’s adoption of new-to-world technologies sourced from the region. Their scope will span; technology scouting, development acceleration and demonstration, creating collaborative networks, accessing regional funding initiatives, training and evangelising Industry 4.0 technology, providing technology integration expertise, supporting technology transfer and delivering value through a portfolio of deployment projects across the region.
 
Role and Responsibilities
 
The Director/Fellow of Technology Innovation will co-ordinate the setup of J&J’s Supply Chain’s Asia innovation hub, act as Engineering and technology’s ‘go to’ person for the co-ordination of all innovation activities across the region, Scout for new technologies, build collaborative networks with technology vendors and academia and ensure the effective and efficient running of the center. The setup of ‘satellite Labs’ will also be need to be co-ordinated in the future. The innovation directors responsibilities will include:
 
Innovation Leadership
  • Prioritise technology opportunities and coordinate the development activities at the Asia Center to drive a portfolio of value driven innovation projects
  • Scout / Seek new sources of innovation across technologies, processes and people
  • Identify key technology trends, their implications
  • Implementation of technology horizon scanning and landscaping capabilities
  • Serve as the point for Row SC groups entry into scouting for the region
Strategy and Execution
  • Collaboratively develop and drive forward a co-ordinated Asia technology strategy with Engineering and Technology’s (ET) other International solution centers ET’s integrated technology roadmap
  • Identify the priority technologies that will deliver measurable business benefits and accelerate new technology readiness and integrated solutions for deployment
Business Development
  • Build strong vendor & technology partner relationships to create a collaborative integration network
  • Identify and partner with key regional academic institutions to build a world class research network
  • Leverage regional financial and resource investments and incentives
  • ‘Evangelise’ the Center and create technology ‘pull’ from franchises for effective technology transfer
Operations management 
  • General management of day to day Innovation Lab operations
  • Coordinate development activities in collaboration with other stakeholders worldwide.
  • Expand relationships with current vendor partners and develop new value added partnerships
  • Shape and co-ordinate technology training and showcasing to a network of J&J Supply Chain and Sector stakeholders
Resource management
  • Identify, secure and retain the best possible resources for the realisation of the Center
  • Planning, allocation, integration and coordination of flexible teams consisting of permanent and contracted resource as well as vendors and research institutes.
Finance and benefit management
  • Co-ordinate the development, control, and report of Lab activities, project and operations capex and opex budgets, asset inventory and benefits
Communication
  • Drive clear and regular communications within the center, to ET, with partners, J&J segments as required and with associated institutes, universities and partners
Travel
  • Whilst the position is based in Singapore, regular travel to other international locations will be required, such as other international Labs, J&J Solution centers, project and partner locations.

Experience and education
 
You will be able to demonstrate a strong career progression to senior management or executive level within an engineering, technology innovation or technology labs environment. Further requirements for this position are:
  • International business and inter-cultural experience
  • Industry experience within Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, Consumer Products or a related manufacturing engineering related sector
  • Educated to degree level or higher. Minimum of 2:1 from an internationally recognised university in a relevant engineering or technology subject.
  • Experience of 3D printing, automation and manufacturing technologies with demonstrable expertise in at least one of these technology areas.
  • Track record of technology innovation ideally with new to world or Industry 4.0 technologies
