Position Summery


This role will be responsible for strategic sourcing of indirect materials/services for 3 sectors in Johnson & Johnson Japan group: Pharma, Medical Device and Consumer.  As Commercial Procurement, we manage approximately the spending of $450MM/yr., and coverage of sourcing responsibility covers Marketing, Corporate service (such as Consulting, Translation), Fleet, IT, Travel, Meeting & Event, etc.

The role focuses on medium to high complexity projects and requires a close collaboration with key stakeholders.  He/She will be responsible in implementing the strategic initiatives.  As Procurement is one of a few functions that have visibility across different sectors, leveraging cross-sector scale and drive project across different sectors is a key.


He/she will provide the leadership for maintaining key relationships within the business and managing relationships with the suppliers. The position must shape, connect and lead resources to deliver on key projects.


On top of the regular sourcing activities, he/she will need to lead to achieve Procurement strategic framework, including Compliance, Supplier Innovation, Financial Value, Operational Excellence.


Senior Manager’s scope of responsibilities includes:

  • Lead and implement preferred suppliers with strategic commercial conditions, that meets business needs and consolidate the spending to the preferred suppliers to deliver better value
  • Manage relationship with the key suppliers: Monitor performance, develop and lead regular performance reviews (e.g. Annual Evaluation, Business Review meeting)
  • Lead the contract negotiation, especially for Master Service Agreement of preferred suppliers
  • Monitor and call-out gaps of Commercial Procurement KPI
  • Implement Procurement compliance initiatives, including trainings to employees
  • Manage Contract management team, mainly consisted of outsourced resources

Major Duties & Responsibilities


[35%] Business Engagement: Proactively and independently engages managerial and director level stakeholders and below and engages (with guidance) Vice President and above; Serves as a point of escalation for supplier issues

[35%] Supplier Management: Implements supplier management methodology where applicable with selected suppliers; Bridge innovative ideas from supplier to internal business needs

[20%] Other activities (KPI’s, Compliance): Proactively and independently manages all related sourcing activities; Drives sourcing integration/disengagement for company merger and divesture; Trains employees to ensure Procurement compliance

[10%] Contract Team management: Ensure smooth operation and implement improvement plan for efficiency

  Project management skills

  Strong business acumen

  Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information

  Ability to continuously improve the organization

  • Japanese (Fluent) and English (Fluent). (Chinese an asset)

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Area of Study:  Business, life sciences or related field
Preferred Related Industry Experience (if applicable): Health Care industry (Pharma/Medical)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(Include any required computer skills, certifications, licenses, languages, etc.):
  • Strategic sourcing skills in Indirect Procurement area, with ability to align, document and execute sourcing strategy with stakeholders
  • Experience in working in Health Care industry (Pharmaceutical and/or Medical devices)
  • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"
  • Experience in successfully leading cross-functional teams
