For our site in Zuchwil-Switzerland we are looking for a highly committed:

Front-End Development Engineer

You will be responsible for the design and development of new and improvements/modifications of existing implants and instruments. And will be an integral training/mentoring resource to all product development engineers with a focus on associate team members. Furthermore, as a Front-End Development Engineer, your tasks may include:
  • Research on new solutions to clinical problems within the organization strategy
  • Research and evaluation of innovations and maintaining awareness of surgical trends regarding opportunities in addressing clinical problems
  • Design, manage and execute feasibility studies of new technologies focused on determining confidence in ability for Product Development, scale of development work to result in potential products and technology platforms. Therefore, works with surgeons, sales force and others for design requirements, design concept development, prototype and cadaver evaluation, and clinical follow-up
  • Assist by tackling the lead for technical evaluation review for business development opportunities e.g. review of external product concepts for new treatment modalities
  • Responsible for leading high impact and particularly complex projects within the group or across the organization on chartered projects encompassing innovations
  • Technical and strategical regulatory support of challenging medical device technology introductions
  • Collaboration with New Product Development by supporting implementation of new technologies for improvements and modifications to current products according to the Synthes product development process
  • Responsible for initial patent review of designs for freedom to operate as well as for the protection of new concepts, techniques and products through proper patenting 
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with experts in the field (i.e. surgeons, research scientists, metallurgists, etc.) 
  • Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to the job, and to maintain the highest levels of integrity, ethics and compliance at all time

  • You have a University background or have done an ETH course plus at least 5 years practical experience or 2 years following award of doctorate, or 
  • are an experienced professional, who has mastered the job through professional training and extensive experience (min. 12 years) 
  • Mechanical engineering with electronic engineering background or experience
  • Experience in execution of software development projects and definition of User Requirements.
  • Successful project management of product development projects
  • Strong personality to lead a multi-disciplinary project team with internal and external team members
  • You are creative and a problem-solver
  • You have planning skills and have the willingness to accept responsibility 
  • You can work independent yet a team player
  • English business fluency is a requirement; German a plus!
This position will be based in Zuchwil and require up to 10% travel, including possible international travel.
