The Advanced Engineering team leads the delivery of automated solutions for existing and new products within the global Vision Surgery supply chain.  The team works in harmony with the manufacturing sites to understand the needs of the business and then develops automated solutions to support product growth, product quality and cost reduction targets.  This in reality means working at the cutting edge of automation technology with selected equipment & technology suppliers.  All the roles within the team require a commitment to work globally, travelling to manufacturing sites and the automation solution providers to make the projects happen.  Great team work & excellent collaboration skills are a must, as is a can-do attitude.

Staff Project Engineer

·         Responsible for the lifecycle management of capital projects: requirements definition, supplier selection, supplier management, equipment design oversight, acceptance testing, installation & validation

·         Will be held accountable for time, quality & cost

·         Will be part of a highly skilled engineering 

Travel Requirement 30%+



·         A mechanical engineering degree (or similar) and extensive application experience within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry

·         Significant project management expertise within the field of high-speed automation, including vision systems, high-speed multi-axis motion control and robotics

·         Significant experience of external supplier selection & management

·         Strong understanding of European and US equipment safety requirements including interpretation and implementation

·         Working knowledge of GAMP 5

·         Process Excellent (Six Sigma) practical experience

·         Experience of internal stakeholder management & communication



·         Background in machine tools & high-speed machining

·         Working knowledge of laser drilling & cutting technologies

·         Line leadership experience

·         Coaching & mentoring junior members of engineering staff

·         Working knowledge of controls and software engineering

·         Working knowledge of process engineer principles

·         Working knowledge of Design for Manufacture & Design for Assembly methodology
