Position Summary:

Reporting to Senior Manager, Therapeutic Area Communications, Communication & Public Affairs Japan, this role is responsible for development of the strategic planning and implementation of integrated communication to increase and protect Janssen Japan’s reputation as a leading company in the core therapeutic areas.

Primary Responsibilities:
Ensure effective delivery of information to external stakeholders in Japan, primarily HCPs, health authorities and patients, helping establish Janssen’s reputation in the focus therapeutic areas as the first choice of treatment. 

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Align therapeutic area communications with business and marketing priorities;
• Develop communication strategies that support the strategic objectives and create opportunities for sales;
• Develop compelling message and content for brand and patient stories;
• Develop and manage all therapeutic area communication channels and activities such as press interviews, press release, press conference, and other media related activities for brands as well as non-media activities;
• Proactively build and maintain relationships with key local media, be key point of contact for media enquiries and requests, and make pitches Janssen stories to key journalists for positive media coverage;
• Provide professional constancy and strategic communication plans and cross-functionally work for development of communication tools to protect Janssen Japan’s reputation from negative impact on business when an issue occurs;
• Develop and maintain relationship with key patient groups for mutual understanding between Janssen and patient groups;
• Plan strategic patient advocacy programs to help develop patient groups’ capabilities and to share the voices of patients with Janssen employees; 
• Drive process harmonization to foster greater levels of efficiency in therapeutic area communications;
• Partner with key internal stakeholders to understand business unit specific communication needs;
• Work closely with Asia Pacific Therapeutic Area Communications and leverage global and regional capabilities;
• Partner with local PR agencies, advertising agencies, and other local vendors to maximize Janssen’s work
• Foster and promote patient centric culture at Janssen Japan in collaboration with business units and internal communications team;
• Project and budget management of external vendor support.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Communications and/or Journalism or Public Relations/ or Marketing;
• 7+ years of experience in communications experience with measurable results. Experience in therapeutic area communication are preferred;
• 5+ years of experience in the healthcare industry is preferred;
• Demonstrated experience of project management, managing innovative communication channels/platforms, providing strategic professional counsel, communications execution and delivering programs; 
• Experience working in a regional function and demonstrated understanding of global organization issues with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations;
• Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and matrix environment;
• Fluency in Japanese and excellent written and verbal command of English required;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office;
• Excellent in time/budget/people management.
