Johnson & Johnson Consumer Europe is a leading supplier of Fast Moving Consumer / OTC Goods. Our products and brands are produced and distributed in all major EMEA countries and exported overseas.  


The Consumer Supply Chain Procurement supports a business exceeding $16.0 B through a network >20 internal plants, >100 contract manufacturers, managing a portfolio of ~900 suppliers & contractors across all categories – total spend exceeding $3.0 B.  External Manufacturing is our group that within the procurement organization manages the manufacturing network through external manufacturers.   We do this by building and implementing sourcing strategies that develop a world class network of best value suppliers meeting J&J Business needs of supply quality and reliability, responsiveness, cost competitiveness and access to technology innovation that fuels superior growth. We are actively engaged in driving external innovation, by directly connecting with the business, and linking external capabilities, technologies, or products that fit into our overall strategic plan and enable speed to market.


The position of Associate Sourcing Manager is designed to meet these objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting/leading the following:

  • A technology within External Manufacturing (including Liquid, Solid Dose, Aseptics or Semi Solids in OTC, or Toiletries, Woundcare, SanPro, or Wipes in Beauty Care)
  • Approx. € 10-50MM Cost Of Goods (depending on the technology)
  • Approx. 3-15 contract sites
  • Product Supply of Finished Goods to 30+ European and non-European affiliates.
  • Extensive and complex new product initiatives requiring identification, selection, and integration of new technologies and contractors
  • Active participation on EMEA High Performance Teams that includes providing oversight and approvals for operating budgets, capital appropriations, and cost reduction programs

This is only possible through interdependent partnering with other J&J organizations such as Supply Chain, R&D, Franchise Management, Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Legal departments, and ad hoc project teams. And linking J&J Consumer’s business needs with external capabilities.





Analytics, Cost and Complexity Reduction – approx. 40% of time/effort

  • Understand portfolio’s P&L structure
  • Develop and manage the financial Business plan through forecast of yearly price changes, tracking of cost
    • Clarifications on price, currency, COGS
    • Materials award communication
    • PPV reconciliation (checking and raising POs)
    • Cost card updates checking
    • Pricelist creation
  • Lead cost improvement projects and ensure the realization of savings
  • Accountable for new product costing under reasonable assumptions
  • Develop and Manage the financial Business Plan through forecast of yearly price changes, tracking of Cost Improvement Program 

Sourcing Strategy – approx. 20% of time/effort

  • Become expert in the technology area by developing in-depth knowledge about in-house and External Manufacturing network (capabilities, strengths, weaknesses)
  • Become the point of contact in the technology area for Industry intelligence and trends
  • Develop, align and execute sourcing strategies for the specific technology area

Supplier Relationship Management – approx. 20% of time/effort

  • Accountable the identification, implementation and tracking of Continuous Improvement initiatives at selected External Manufacturers
  • Accountable for crisis resolution through early escalation and deployment of internal resources

Compliance to J&J requirements – approx. 5% of time/effort

  • Ensure External Manufacturer compliance towards all J&J requirements (Reach, Financial Sarbanes-Oxley, Health & Safety, Environment, QA etc) through deployment of internal resources

Legal Contract Development and Management – approx. 10% of time/effort

  • Negotiate appropriate supply terms and agreements for Raw materials that best meet the needs and risks posed to J&J
  • Manage contracts status to ensure appropriate legal coverage is maintained across the portfolio

Access to Innovation/Sustainability – approx. 5% of time/effort

  • Lead efforts to identify and implement product or technology innovation from Suppliers that fuel profitable growth

The performance of the associate sourcing manager will be primarily measured by:

  • Improvements in cash flow; actual cost savings, cost avoidances or efficiency gains as validated by the manager and financial business partners
  • Structural supplier responsiveness and reliability improvements in the supply base
  • Contribution and insights to key Strategic Business Partners



  • Experience working in an international and cross-functional environment is required
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing and/or Purchasing is required
  • Experience working in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) and/or OTC is very desirable
  • Experience in sourcing packaging or FNW components is nice to have
  • Self starter with high integrity and ethical behavior
