Scope of role: National; supporting therapeutic areas and stakeholder activation across the Rx business in Japan

·         Drive business objectives of the Japan Rx business, as well as the J&J Enterprise, ensuring alignment of communication activities and efforts, particularly in relation to the Enterprise in Japan organization
·         Build external and internal stakeholder trust and advocacy across the business, spanning four therapeutic areas (Oncology, Immunology, Central Nervous System, and Infectious Diseases) and 16 brands Inspire employee advocacy
·         Build and lead a ‘best-in-class’ communication team of five professionals, including three direct reports
As lead commercial communication resource for Janssen Japan, help drive country and regional business unit growth; build stakeholder trust/advocacy through proactive public relations and public affairs; and ensure ongoing liaison with Japan R&D and the Enterprise organization.
·         Develop strong partnerships with and serve as trusted advisor to the Value Teams in Japan on multiple businesses and brands
·         Ensure alignment of Communication & Public Affairs goals with national business strategies
·         Integrate knowledge from deep external and internal networks; multi-stakeholder insights; and broad understanding of business, competitive and industry priorities to lead the development and efficient implementation of strategic, integrated communication plans that drive key business and reputation outcomes and shape the environment for the company and its products
·         Align national public relations plans with competitive advantage of a single-Enterprise set of strategic priorities, and foster best practice sharing between markets
·         Proactively drive business and Enterprise outcomes by identifying and applying key metrics to communication practices, and provide insights that drive confidence, integration and alignment. Partner closely with Strategy & Insights CoE to develop metrics and assess impact
·         Anticipate and address emerging market and internal realities to drive revenue and profitability
·         Build understanding of current issues in the environment affecting businesses and brands; in partnership with Government Affairs and Stakeholder Activation colleagues, develop and execute public affairs strategies that impact belief, action, behavior and advocacy in order to shape the external environment
·         Partner closely with the relevant global Therapeutic Area Communication Leaders (TACLs) within the Janssen R&D organization, Corporate Media Relations, Investor Relations, Government Affairs & Policy, Supply Chain and Content Lab to ensure alignment of country business goals with global strategy.
·         At the regional level, work closely with the regional Therapeutic Area Communication Leaders, Stakeholder Activation Leaders and the Japan Enterprise C&PA team to ensure an Enterprise approach to Japan communications strategies.
·         Manage public relations agencies and other professional agencies supporting brands/franchises
·         Oversee budgets with the highest degree of fiscal prudence and responsibility
·         Develop relationships with key media, including social media influencers
·         Build relationships with and act as liaison to key third-party influencers and external constituencies
Maintain external stakeholder trust through effective management of issues
·         Proactively identify potential brand/franchise-related issues and develop issues-management strategies
·         Manage product issues and other situations that may impact stakeholder trust and company reputation
·         Partner closely with regional Janssen communication, Japan Enterprise C&PA team, Media Relations, Workforce Communication, Strategy & Insights and other CoEs to ensure Enterprise alignment
·         Develop messages that engage, inform and align stakeholders and serve as spokesperson for media inquiries
Drive employee engagement and advocacy in Japan through powerful organizational communication
·         Partner with business leaders, develop internal communication strategies and messages to inspire, engage, inform and align employees
·         Serve as a change champion for innovation and new ways of operating
·         Drive outcomes by bringing a measurement approach to organizational communication, incorporate relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement
·         Partner closely with Japan Enterprise C&PA, Workforce Communication CoE, HR, and others to ensure seamless integration of Enterprise communication; lead change management to ensure smooth transition to and enthusiastic uptake of single global employee portal
Build C&PA capability and excellence in Japan

Education and/or additional training: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, marketing, liberal arts, science or business
