Position purpose
• Responsible for contributing to all medical device new business development activities for Johnson & Johnson Medical Device Company in Japan
• Seek external growth opportunities to maximize the economic value of JJKK and support the
smooth operation of existing alliances
• Lead major NBD deals through lead identification, cross-functional collaboration, alignment
with J&J global functions, external negotiation and deal closing under a variety of
partnership formats (in-licensing, out-licensing, M&A, JV, co-promotion, co-development, etc.
Major tasks and responsibilities of position
• Development and delivery of external partnering strategy for NBD, under Department Head
• Largely independently identify, evaluate, negotiate, and manage business development
activities through partnerships, alliances, mergers, or acquisitions that will contribute to the
organization’s short and long-term business goals
• Manage existing alliances and establish long-term professional relationships with potential
partners to promote J&J as the partner of choice and function as the first contact for
Japanese companies seeking global commercial partnerships with J&J
• Act as “first filter” of late development stage incoming opportunities, based on deep
understanding of business needs. Prepare and coordinate preliminary assessments of
external opportunities together with relevant functions. Prepare and lead assessment of
external opportunities including due diligence
• Present projects for First and Second Mandate to local and global decision bodies,
managing key stakeholders in order to gain endorsement
• Negotiate full contractual agreement under supervision of Department Head
• Local support as necessary to global medical device NBD deals
• Undertake project team leadership, and team coaching and development roles in the

Who you are
• 3-5 years in business development or equivalent direct experience (corporate strategy,
M&A) preferred
• Those with demonstrated strong leadership potential in a relevant pharma/medical device business function (e.g. brand management, product development, market research) will also be considered
• Bachelor’s degree or higher. Specialization in Medical/ Pharmaceutical/Scientific sectors
• MBA preferred
• Strong business experience and intuition, to identify opportunities, structure deals, conduct
financial analysis, negotiate terms and close deals
• Strongly delivery focused
• Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and lead projects with colleagues at all levels of
the organization
• Ability to influence senior managers internally and externally
• Strong analytical skills & a solid ability to understand complex business issues
• Excellent written, verbal skills, and presentation skills in both Japanese and English
