Purpose: As a core member of the Japan R&D Senior Leadership Team, serves as a key partner to the VP, Head of R&D, to ensure alignment, accountability and focus for effective execution of critical organizational strategies to deliver growth by having responsibilities; (1) R&D project portfolio management including project risk management, portfolio decision support including resources management, and governance management such as JSRB. (2) Across R&D functions’ activities planning and management including communication and training, as well as to be a counter-partner of AP Science and Strategy Office, at APMS . The head of R&D management will also take full responsibility to develop people of R&D Department team.

Major Responsibilities:
1) Project & portfolio management:
Project risk management
- leads/launches key growth and acceleration mechanisms and initiatives with the objective of helping translate thoughts into actions and actions into results
- Identify project risks and maintain trigger map to take necessary actions at right timing in order to avoid and/or mitigate project risks

Portfolio decision support
- Drive to more efficient and effective project portfolio/resource management and decision making based on the project prioritization and organizational strategy
- Oversight ISD activities done by Business Solution Group and make sure alignment of all actions
- Oversight Janssen Japan R&D portfolio management and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Oversight Janssen R&D project management system operations and reporting/analysis about R&D’s project list & capacity (FTEs)

R&D project governance control
- Ensure the R&D project governance management, mainly JSRB and JSRB-Project Asset Management (JSRB-PAM), in alignment with the established organizational objectives
- Provide necessary information to S-MC mainly focus on on-going studies

2) Planning & execution of non-project R&D wide activities:
Communication
- Evaluate organizational climate and make proposal to SLT as needed
- Create organizational communication plan, including THM planning, and responsible for implementation of those plans.

Center of excellence
- Works closely with HR, Finance, Communication and other supporting areas to ensure adequate resourcing and strategic planning for Japan R&D and ensure close ties to relevant stakeholders
- Integrates input from PMO, R&D finance & HR to track metrics, strategic objectives & outcomes, also develop the independent indicators to assess and track the organizational growth and health
- Identify area of improvements mainly focus on cross functional process optimization and take necessary actions by using advanced innovation (Process excellence)
- Responsible for global visitor arrangements upon request
Training
- Provide general trainings and oversee their effectiveness
- Coordinate company-wide training provided by HR especially for nominated program

R&D organizational governance control
- Coordinate SLT and support SLT meeting arrangements
- Leads organizational strategy & culture building with the information needed to make effective R&D organizational decisions
- Endorses staffing plan and organization design within R&D

3) General
Reporting lines and talent pipelines
- Report to head of Japan R&D, R&D J-PMO Head and R&D SPD Head report to this position
- Identifying gaps in the talent pipeline especially for PMs and providing opportunities to region/global and fulfilling key talent to meet future business model.

Span of Control
- Headcount: approximately 30 HCs including TMP


Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
- Significant experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team in the analysis and synthesis of complex data, including financial and operational data and metrics. Ability to interpret data to information and action plans to improve performance.
- Prior experience in managing a large cross-functional matrix organization, with strong knowledge of the drug development process
- Experience in assessing technology, market environment, and R&D process requirements to successfully drive productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies
- Ability to translate data into strategies driving executable action plans.
