The candidate will join a drug discovery team to develop cutting-edge small molecule and biologic therapeutics for the treatment of lung cancer. S/he will participate across all stages of preclinical drug discovery (from target identification to preclinical candidate selection) in an exciting and stimulating international work environment that includes interacting with multiple internal and external groups. The candidate will demonstrate engagement, creativeness, independence, solid communication abilities, and strong interpersonal skills. An excellent scientific track record, preferably in multiple scientific disciplines, is essential. Experience in lung cancer or other solid tumor drug discovery is a considerable advantage. Expertise in immune-oncology is a plus.candidate should be working from Beerse as office location.
 
 Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
  1. Design, troubleshooting, and execution of decision-making experiments. Interpretation and reporting of complex data.
  2. Application of diverse expertise in cellular and molecular biology (e.g. cell culture, transfections, transductions, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, siRNA/shRNA, CRISPR/Cas9, FACS, ELISA).
  3. Implementation of innovative small and large molecule drug discovery strategies (e.g. screening funnels, PK/PD/efficacy correlations).
  4. Supervision of research associate(s).
  5. Proposal of novel and actionable targets aligned with scientific strategy and capabilities.
  6. Management of multiple experiments/projects. Interaction with supporting functions.
  7. Contribution to projects outside of his/her responsibility through collaboration with stakeholders from other functions.
  8. Initiation and management of external collaborations (contract research organizations, academics).
  9. Preparation of documents and presentation of strategy, results, project updates, and summaries.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Special Skills:

  1. Education:
    Ph.D. degree with several years of productive post-doctoral experience in academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
     
  2. Related experience:
    Knowledge in tumor biology and immunology with a track record of high-quality publications. Drug discovery experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment is a plus. Knowledge of pharmacology is helpful.
     
  3. Personal skills and competencies:
  • Intellectually curious and well-informed in the latest scientific advances in the fields of solid tumor and immune oncology.
  • Creativity and application of novel approaches to solving scientific problems.
  • Ability to define and work towards reaching goals independently and in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Some people management experience is desirable. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to present scientific data and concepts effectively to international standards.
