Janssen Pharmaceutical Company, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting an experienced Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist, at the Scientific Director level to join the Tox/Path/LAM Team within Pre-Clinical Development and Safety (PD&S).
The position will be based in Beerse, Belgium. The successful candidate will work locally with global collaboration to deliver scientific support to Development Projects, Drug Discovery and Investigative Problem solving Teams.

Research and development areas encompass novel targets in Neuroscience, Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Vaccines, Cardiovascular & Metabolism Disorders, Pulmonary arterial Hypertension and Immunology.
As a Pathologist, responsibilities will include the following:
  • Function as a study pathologist on toxicology, discovery and pharmacology studies to include review of experimental/research protocols, provision of gross and microscopic evaluation of tissues and reporting of integrated results on a variety of nonclinical studies aimed at improving pre-clinical to clinical translation of both safety and efficacy.
  • Provide expert ToxPath support in pre-clinical development and take the lead in working out the underlying pathogenesis of findings.
  • Histopathologic evaluation of toxicology studies (also GLP).
  • Peer review of histopathologic evaluations performed by other pathologists (in-house and/or CROs).
  • Ensure consistent on time delivery of high quality Pathology data and Pathology reports for Preclinical Toxicology studies to meet project goals and milestones.
  • Review Pathology reports and regulatory documents and provide scientific input in determining hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management within Preclinical Development & Safety, providing guidance on issue resolution and mitigation strategies.
  • Member of interdisciplinary preclinical development teams to drive compound development and issue resolution.
  • Ability to develop and implement research plans that will address complex issues/projects
  • Identify and lead collaborative scientific efforts with internal, external, consortia and academic investigators.
  • Interest and knowledge in Molecular pathology to enable selection and interpretation of appropriate safety/ efficacy endpoints and the design of mechanistic studies.

  • The successful candidate should have a DVM and preferably a PhD, and is board certified by the American/European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP/ECVP) and/or FRCPath.
  • Strong scientific interest and curiosity.
  • Immunology knowledge would be a plus.
  • Team-player, communication skills and recognized knowledge and expertise in the field of pathology.
