Position Summary
Manages the resolution of complex employee relations issues and is aware of developing Labor/Employee Relations issues and trends.
Participate in the development and maintains the overall labor relations strategies, practices and policies for an operating company or region.
Provides day-to-day advice and counsels various human resources and business leaders on labor relations matters including contract explanations, grievance resolution, and other related labor and employment matters.
Explains and interprets complex company and governmental rules, regulations and procedures and the need for compliance to managers and employees. Conducts the investigation and resolution of employee grievances; coordinates the processes of responding to complaints.
Reviews and presents labor/employee relations trends and conducts risk assessments. Uses knowledge, judgment, and experience to recommend courses of action on labor/employee relations issues to management. Implements best practices, skills, processes and tools for the Labor/Employee Relations work.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the operational plans to increase the effectiveness of services while improving the customer experience:
    • Employee Relations – Ensure timely and compliant handling of all Grievance and Discipline Requests. Coach & train managers and employees.
    • Labor Relations:  input and guidance on Labor Relations Strategy, information & consultation with Employee Rep Bodies, CBA within agreed parameters with BUHR, business impact assessment, ad hoc Labor Relations consulting including for major workforce events (M&A, Divestitures, Restructuring…). They will be responsible for any stakeholder management and communications that might be needed in the ER/LR space.
    • Performance Management – Coach managers on managing performance issues
  • Notify relevant COE, Global Policies team on regulatory changes
  • Ensure workplace policies are current and in compliance with applicable local laws
  • Support management of Grievance and Discipline requests
  • Build an external professional network to maintain an appropriate view of the workplace and marketplace
  • Provide professional guidance to HR teams within the Country.
  • Maintain transparent communication channel with HR Services and BUHRs.      
  • Work closely with internal and external colleagues within the country / work location(s).
  • Lead and contribute to scheduled and ad hoc training in order to improve performance and promote continuous learning in ER/LR matters
  • Drives direct interventions with Managers and employees on most sensitive cases and or escalations
  • Understand the Key Performance Indicators and operational metrics that are critical to managing service delivery in order to achieve Service Level Agreements and meet customer service standards          
  • Manage and monitor operational data and reports daily and implement interventions to maintain service standards.
  • Utilize operational practices and reports, including quality audits, standard and ad hoc reports in order to identify issues and take actions to achieve performance goals and targets
  • Embrace and leads a culture of inclusiveness and multi-cultural engagement through coaching and feedback to peers and the broader community in Global Services, HR in alignment with the Company's Leadership Imperatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, feedback, and, where appropriate, discipline to and through subordinate team members.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Stay current on country (countries) employment and labor practices.    
  • Comply with and enforce standards for maintaining a confidential and sensitive work environment for team
  • Partner with Legal in litigation management
  • Partner with HR local teams and Global HR Services.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years HR experience with a concentration in Employee Relations, Labor Relations, and HR Generalist experience researching, investigating, and addressing employee misconduct and below job performance standards; providing guidance to management
  • Knowledge of Employment and Labor Relations practices
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience managing, planning and implementing projects and strategic change initiatives.
  • Experience in working with Employee Representative Bodies (e.g. Workers Council or Union) on information and consultation, negotiating collective agreements and dismissals.
  • Experience in coaching, conflict management, (e.g. mediation), & training employees and managers.
  • Influence leadership skills, in an indirect, matrix-based, and virtual environment with understanding and appreciation for regional differences.
  • Able to deal with conflict and stressful situations, can be resilient. Able to detach and maintain a good work-life balance.
  • Enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment by facilitation, cooperation, pride, trust, and creating a group identity.

Travel on the Job
Preferred Area of Study:    Employment and Labor Law, HR or related discipline is preferred
Preferred  Industry Experience in Healthcare or related.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience using Case Management tools
  • Experience with continuous improvement and quality, such as Lean Methodology
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills. 
  • Ability to understand and correctly represent the needs of the countries and work locations
