Scientific Lead Analytics & Microbiome


With focus on scientific leadership and oversight as SME in analytics/QC and in bacterial production processes. The main goal is to ensure a robust delivery of bacteria-based clinical trial material, keeping long-term GMP/commercial needs in mind. The individual will work closely with the functional areas and Technical Integrators in a matrix environment.

Your main tasks will be:
  • Ensure that developed production and analytical procedures are robust and fit-for-purpose in a GMP setting based on scientific understanding - in close collaboration with the functional areas and the Technical Integrators
  • Scientific ownership of developed procedures
  • Scientific guidance of the functional areas, keeping long-term GMP/commercial needs in mind, e.g. as peer reviewer of development and tech transfer plans/protocols, as lead in complex investigations, as trainer of scientific/technological concepts, like data analysis, and as champion of re-usable knowledge and data integrity
  • Authoring of best practice documents
  • Partner with the functional areas to ensure timely delivery of project milestones, including regulatory dossier sections, and to foster a continuous improvement culture
  • Showcase achievements in applicable forums

  • PhD (preferred) or MSc in Microbiology/Microbiome or other relevant discipline
  • ~5 (post-PhD) or ~8 (post-MSc) years of experience, preferably in industry
  • Experience with (an)aerobic bacterial process development from cell bank to drug product, including scale-up and tech transfers to GMP production
  • Experience with assay development and transfer to QC
  • Knowledge of applicable quality and regulatory guidelines and industry standards for developing and launching bacterial-based products
  • Accurate, pro-active and flexible
  • Creative problem solving
  • Experience with QbD, process characterization, PPQ, statistical concepts like DOE, and rapid learning
  • Strong communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to shape a project without direct line authority
  • Fluency in English and preferably German in addition
