Toxicology/Pathology/LAM is a department of Preclinical Development & Safety (PD&S) within Janssen Research & Development, a division of Janssen Pharmaceutica NV.  Toxicology/Pathology/LAM supports preclinical safety evaluation in late discovery and development for various therapeutic areas. Within Toxicology/Pathology/LAM, with location Beerse, Belgium, a position is available for a (m/f)
Job description
The responsibilities of the Discovery toxicologist/Study Director- Senior Scientist include a.o.
  • Design of early toxicological studies, integrated scientific data interpretation and close collaboration with preclinical representatives.
  • Study director of in vivo and/or in vitro studies in support of pre-clinical late discovery/early development projects.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team within PD&S, and depending on skills and experience, also within the discovery organization, representing PD&S.
  • Provide strong scientific input with regard to potential mechanisms of toxicity in molecular pathways and propose appropriate follow-up. Maintain up-to-date knowledge with regard to innovative approaches in (predictive) toxicological research.
  • Possess skills to lead study teams with contributions from various functional area’s.

Qualifications and abilities
  • Academic degree in Medical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Toxicology or similar education, or DVM with proven research experience.
  • Experience as Study Director or Toxicologist, with proven interest in investigative studies and discovery support projects and/or platforms.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary data interpretation and teams, or potential to develop this.
  • Track record in scientific data evaluation, integrated safety assessment, and scientific writing.
  • Translate in vitro and in vivo discovery data into consequences for development with broad interest in molecular pathways and toxicology (and preferably in disease models).
  • Negotiate and influence decision-making processes, think and manage through issues into resolution, lead study teams and scientific discussions.
  • Make fast decisions if needed, but at the same time inclusive and excellent team player.
  • Strong communication and personal leadership skills, pro-active and flexible attitude, sense of urgency, excellent collaborator.
  • Experience in the therapeutic areas CNS, Oncology and/or Infectious Diseases & Vaccines is preferred.
  • Experience with GLP is preferred.
