Senior IT Director

As the BU IT Head for a strongly vertical business unit in China, this is a key IT Leadership role for a large consumer healthcare market where our client has ambitious aspirations for the future.
This position is a member of the management board with a core objective of helping business leaders leverage IT effectively, helping to ensure achievement of all future growth aspirations. Additionally, there is core accountability for developing a strong business focused team of IT professionals across all relevant IT domains in the Consumer Healthcare business in China, covering Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Commercial, Digital, Business Intelligence and Analytics, and IT Compliance.
l Effective Senior Level Partnering with Business and Information Technology Leaders, including Country Managing Director, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and IT Shared Service leaders. Ensure strategic, progressive and relevant IT thought leadership is considered and embedded in the overall needs of the business. Make a direct contribution to the development of business and functional strategies in China
l People leadership, talent development, team motivation and engagement of multiple IT teams. A key responsibility is to continue developing business focused IT talent to support the growth and grasp the IT related opportunities in China, ensuring all the appropriate levels of the business are receiving the required and needed IT support and IT perspectives
l Close partnership with business functions to develop a strategic IT and IT enabled business capability roadmap for China, inclusive of strong portfolio leadership and portfolio governance. A key responsibility will be to work closely with the business teams and business leadership in China to understand the needs and opportunities, and to help the organisation realize these through IT enablement and business process improvement via IT solutions
l Work with business leaders and be responsible for championing and leading the business case development, planning and execution of IT enabled business capability improvements. This includes responsibility for managing highly complex major business initiatives
l Ensure alignment of the business needs and direction with that of the Enterprise IT function
l Serve as a member of the Asia Pacific Regional concerned BU IT leadership team, ensuring the needs, challenges and opportunities of China are effectively prioritized within the global and regional IT organization
l Overall end to end ownership for IT Services to the Business leaders in concerned BU
l Effective budget management, ownership and control
SCOPE AND SCALE OF POSITION
l People management
ü Solid-line and dotted line reporting of IT associates located in multiple locations within China
l Relationship Management
ü Single point of accountability for end to end IT services for the Consumer Healthcare business in China. The role requires intellectual curiosity to influence stakeholders with courageous points of view in discovering new ways of doing things, including solutions not experienced before. The incumbent must also show strong leadership in representing emerging market ideals and perspectives
ü The incumbent will be responsible for managing a combined OPEX and CAPEX budget of approx. USD10MM
l Degree of Independent Judgment
ü This position requires a high degree of independent judgment. The incumbent is expected to operate based on general guidance from senior business and IT management regarding priorities and imperatives. Expected to run the organization to deliver against commitments, escalating issues on an exception basis. Expected to champion new ways or working and leverage of IT solutions into day to day operations
l Education and/or additional training
Typical candidates will possess 12+ years of relevant experience and BA/BS Degree or equivalent. Requires previous people leadership experience in a commercially orientated IT leadership role in China. Local Language skills are essential
ü Previous experience in IT leadership roles in China within relevant industries;
ü Broad expertise in the delivery of customer focused IT solutions and strategies which enable and support business objectives and growth in China. Experience of IT leadership in Commercial Domains such as Sales, Marketing, Analytics, eCommerce is highly desirable
ü Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and decisively with business leaders in China and a demonstrated track record of influencing, championing and leading IT enabled business process improvements
ü Track record in program/project planning and well executed delivery. Track record managing complex organizations to deliver project results
ü Ability to operate effectively with partner IT organizations as well as with third-party IT organizations
ü Track record of people leadership in a large, globally diverse organization. Attracting, mentoring and retaining top IT talent and creating an environment that fosters excellence, innovation, collaboration and teamwork
ü Background in some of the following operational frameworks desired / preferred…. Lean, Six-Sigma, PMBOK, SOX and GxP
ü Excellent communication skills; able to network, interface and influence at all levels of the organization, cross sector, cross-functionally and globally
