About the J&J Automation Centre of Excellence
The Automation Centre of Excellence (ACoE) is a major component of J&J’s Manufacturing Engineering Sience and Technologies group within J&J Supply Chain. The role of ACoE is to develop world class automation solutions and provide world class automation expertise to J&J’s core business sectors of pharmaceuticals, medical device and consumer goods. The scope of ACoE spans the scouting of new to world automation and cyber-physical Industry 4.0 technologies and partners, accelerating the development and demonstration of these technologies and associated capabilities, developing world class automation solutions, providing technical expertise, supporting technology transfer and delivering benefit through a portfolio of deployment projects across the world. ACoE is an organization of 30-50 permanent and contracted resource encompassing primarily software, mechanical, design, development and project engineering disciplines.

Job description and reponsibilities
The ACoE Operations Director will be responsible for collaborating with ACoE technical leadership, project and programme management and administration to manage the effective and efficient running of all ACoE day to day operations to provide the ACoE service to J&J. The ACoE Operations Director will report to the Director of ACoE, who is accountable for ACoE strategy, operations and performance. Specific responsiblities for the ACoE Operations Director include:

• Operations management: Plan, analyse, manage and co-ordinate ACoE operations including management of resource, financials and benefits, communications, execution to plan, performance, facilities, support systems, adherence to process, quality and standards.
• Resource management: Manage the organization, planning and allocation of ACoE human resources. Develop organization structure, co-ordinate recruitment, develop roles and responsibilities, understand and plan for capability development.
• Finance and benefit management: Co-ordinate the development, control, and report of ACoE project and operations capex and opex budgets, asset inventory, and benefits.
• Communication: Drive clear and regular communications within ACoE, to other Manufacturing Engineering Science and Technology Groups (other CoE and programme management functions), with contractor and vendor partners and J&J segments and franchises as required.
• Linking strategy to execution: Be involved in understanding and contributing to the development of strategic plans to develop and manage delivery against operational execution plans.
• Performance and quality management: Work with ACoE project and programme management technology transfer and deployment teams to assess process adherence, quality and measure and report on performance.
• Performance improvement: Identify, agree and drive improvements in benefits, quality of output, efficiency and compliance across ACoE.
• Travel: While based in ACoE, University of Limerick, travel to other international locations as required, such as other CoEs, project locations, partner locations.

Experience and education

You will be able to demonstrate a career progression with increasing responsibilities in the field of engineering, technology and operations management. The requirements are:
• Manufacturing automation experience ideally with the expertise and working knowledge of the engineering and technology disciplines represented in ACoE.
• Industry experience ideally within Pharmaceuticals, Medical Device, Consumer Goods or a related manufacturing engineering related sector.
• Operations management, process and performance improvement experience covering the scope of the operations role ideally with knowledge of technology project delivery.
• People and team management experience ideally with relevance to a matrix organization technology capability groups vs a technology development and project deployment structure.
• Experience of developing, controlling and reporting on financial budgets.
• International leadership and intercultural experience
• Experience of managing complex stakeholder groups from Director and Vice Presidents, to internal and contract delivery teams, to peers in other related functions, to a network of internal J&J customers and global collaborative partner groups.
• Educated to degree level, qualified with a 2:1 or equivalent in a relevant engineering, technology or operations management degree.
