The Role:
The Senior Director, Global Corporate Media Relations, is a holistic corporate communications strategist with an insatiable passion and ingenuity for fast paced media relations within a dynamic organization that sets global business trends. The Senior Director is a very seasoned and skilled media relations expert, dynamic storyteller, and has a global orientation. The role will ensure that J&J’s interactions with news organizations as it pertains to its business reflects the company’s views and advises the company’s executives and communications teams on how best to present its point-of-view. This role will provide business wide guidance within the political framework that J&J operates in interactions with the media. The Global Media Relations leader work at the forefront of the company’s communications and will serve as a senior counselor to the businesses on their media engagement strategies, connecting information from across the enterprise, to strengthen the company’s announcements for the greatest resonance among our key diverse stakeholder sets.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION

 
  • Enhance and defend the reputation of Johnson & Johnson within the 24/7 news cycle
 
  • Develop, shape, manage & drive strategic pillars on a global scale
 
  • Serves as a lead counselor to the businesses on their news flow, and ensures adherence to the company’s media relations SOPs
 
  • Helps develops and optimize company’s always on “Media Machine” to proactively drive corporate news stories on a global scale that advance our reputation drivers
 

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES (Essential Functions)

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the company’s business strategy, and the enterprise’s reputation drivers, to drive and manages media coverage of the company’s business objectives
  • Drive Johnson & Johnson’s reputation of excellence, innovation & ingenuity on a global scale
  • Become an expert in the business segments’ strategy and the issues affecting them, in order to best advise on how the company can represent itself in the media discussion about them
  • Being flexible and available to react to the fast pace and ever evolving global news environment, and create availability to advise insightfully on short notice
 
  • Proactively research, recommend and pitch media opportunities, and manage reactive media inquiries
  • Develop comprehensive media preparation files for C-Suite and other executives ahead of media interviews
  • Lead and develops a strong team to support and advise the businesses and that can effectively work with the media on news stories to ensure a health and robust succession plan for the media team as well as the company’s global communication team in general
  • Develops and manages key agency relationships, develops and maintains budgets
  • Strategically aligns press releases, news coverage, and announcements within macro- and micro views on Johnson & Johnson and the external factors that shape news coverage of the company and our industry
  • Act as a lead advisor to the various business segments (medical device, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals)
  • Works with the Director, Consumer Media, and co-builds a designated team of communicators to advance the always on “Media Engine”, focused on placing country-specific stories in the media that will advance the company’s reputation platforms
 
  • Develops and deliver weekly and specific news-related media reports that serve to demonstrate the progress of J&J’s global media strategy in key markets


Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in corporate communications roles and experience leading on issues management with in a global enterprise
  • Direct experience working with leading news organizations
  • Strong partnerships with global news media influencers and leaders
  •  A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required
  • Successful track record of developing and implementing strategic media plans and placing stories in key media outlets
  • Experience driving corporate stories and narratives
  • Strong media statement writer and critical thinker
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong familiarity with on-line media analysis and monitoring tools
  • Flexible, team player who is able to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Coach who mentors and develops skills in the team and is capable of cadence of work is distributed and completed with resources at hand.
