You will work within the Enterprise Strategy and Deployment  Product and Service Architecture team and support the development of a service design capability to drive strategic value for J&J.  Working globally across all the Company’s business segments: Consumer, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Device and Corporate Providing hands on support for key strategic projects while also building and improving the service capability when requested by segments or functions.

The Role

  • You are responsible for introducing differentiated, service design-related methodologies into the supply-chain organization that enable new ways of working.
  • You will deliver service design projects that create impact.
  • You will collaborate in scoping service design activities into a strategic approach that addresses human, business and/or organizational needs.
  • You will move projects from early proof of concept to scale.
  • You will lead complex initiatives, guiding teams to produce personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications that demonstrate how service design enhances the overall experience and user ecosystems.
  • You utilize an extensive experience of design thinking, and knowledge of design and global cultural perspectives that guide service design solutions.
  • You Develop and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships between the S&D Service Architecture Team, JnJ Design, and JnJ’s business sectors.
  • Can you assess and improve processes and methodologies relating to product and service design. Within Supply Chain, building this capability further in line with a maturity assessment, highlighting capability gaps and develop proposals to resolve?
  • Be comfortable with the following: ambiguity, leading teams in synthesis activities, conceptualizing future states, providing strategic direction for designing compelling solutions that answer business requirements and, most importantly, the needs of people: our employees, consumers, patients, customers, health care providers and their beneficiaries.

You will sit with a community of design strategists, while working within the S&D’s Product and Service Architecture team. You will support the development of a service design capability in Supply Chain to drive strategic value for J&J. You will provide  hands on support for key strategic projects.

From service strategy to expression, to UX design and data visualization, you will orchestrate the many stages of service architecture within the Supply Chain to deliver innovative healthcare solutions.

You will  contribute to project delivery and be supported by the matrixed team of JnJ Design’s capabilities and partner agencies. You will develop and optimize working processes related to Service Design within Supply Chain and report to the Head of Product and Service Architecture. 

About You

You possess a natural ability to direct groundbreaking solutions for high-level service strategy and experience needs - from delivering concepts through to scale up. You think holistically and can identify the strategic capabilities required to achieve this vision.

To do this, you possess excellent presentation and storytelling skills, sharing work with teammates and partners in a way that instills confidence and focus.

You are able to work collaboratively with all team members and business partners, successfully leading strong working relationships. You comfortably lead working meetings and explorations and champion the integration of product and service design. You have mastered skills required for all phases of the service design process - research, strategy, design, execution and can deliver workable solutions, while supporting regulation and business-success metrics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • An Advanced Design related Degree is preferred, such as Behavioral Science, Social Innovation or Organizational Development and Change Leadership.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required
  • Supply chain service design experience is preferred.
  • Strong subject matter expertise in design and systems thinking, as well as a track record of designing for behavior change.
  • Consistent track record of developing insight and envisioning desirable futures, and facilitating the translation into implementable tactics. Being both a leader and a doer.
  • Experience of having done global work.
  • Strong facilitation skills required to engage a variety of partners along the design process and manage effective engagement in change initiatives.
  • Proven results in developing clear and engaging communications, with proficiency in design-related software such as Adobe CSS, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in navigating large, matrixed organizations is highly desired.
  • Consistent track record of developing insight and envisioning desirable futures, and facilitating the translation into implementable tactics. Being both a leader and a doer.
  • Ability to work with global partners that span commercial and resource-limited settings is preferred.
  • Experience in navigating large, matrixed organizations is preferred.
  • This position is located in New York City, NY and may require up to 25% of travel both domestically and internationally.
