Position Overview
Janssen Inc. is looking to hire for an 8-month Real World Evidence (RWE) Co-op Student position in the Government Affairs and Market Access department (‘ACCESS’). The Co-op Student will work closely with the RWE Director and RWE Manager. Start date is between February and April, 2019. This position is located in Toronto, ON.
The ACCESS team is focused on two key responsibilities: working in close partnership with public and private payers to provide them with appropriate clinical data, pricing and partnership opportunities to support drug funding and patient access; and, data generation through clinical and health economic studies, to facilitate medication access through payers and adoption by prescribers.
The Real World Evidence Co-op Student:
  • Gathers relevant information required for RWE and market access initiatives across disease areas.
  • Creates knowledge translation (KT) tools/materials to communicate (i) progress on RWE initiatives and (ii) output of RWE studies.
  • Manages and updates the RWE SharePoint site.
  • Tracks RWE projects and employs an efficient, organized system for capturing project status.
  • Develops a good understanding (including assessment of data quality) of key Real World Data (RWD) sources: existing sources such as EMRs/EHRs, hospital administrative databases, registries, observational studies, randomized pragmatic trials.
  • Develops a good understanding of regulations and process for public and private data access.
  • Identifies opportunities to use RWE to improve market access and shape process and policy throughout the reimbursement lifecycle.
  • Identifies insights through data generation and analysis.
  • Assists in project management of RWE projects with business partners.
  • Assists in gathering and assessing RWE products/innovations/publications from competitors.
  • Assists in building new RWE capabilities and communication of strategy and plans for RWE studies.
  • Provides support with budgets, contracts, vendor management, publications, and document management.

  • Undergraduate/Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, public administration, health economics, health sciences or a relevant discipline (e.g. MBA).
  • Experience gathering, assessing, and summarizing information and research evidence is essential. This includes, but is not limited to, literature searchers, critical appraisals of medical literature, etc.
  • Strong knowledge translation (KT) skills and demonstrated experience developing KT tools/materials.
  • Experience with real world evidence projects (in a work or academic environment) is an asset; An understanding of electronic health records and external public databases is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, dynamic environment as well as ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to balance multiple and complex tasks, and effectively perform in a matrix environment.
  • Proficiency in technology applications including MS Office is an asset. Advanced knowledge of MS PowerPoint desired.
  • Experience with MS SharePoint desired.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines/policies desired.
  • Demonstration of competencies for creativity, problem-solving, and innovative solutions desired.
  • Strong ability to research and analyze medical/scientific information.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills.
