Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), as part of the J&J Supply Chain, is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Product Stewardship, Johnson and Johnson Medical Devices. This position will be based; preferably in the Irvine / Santa Ana, CA area, New Brunswick, NJ or the West Coast of the United States.

The Senior Manager, Product Stewardship, Medical Devices, will lead global guidance for product stewardship programs for the Cardiovascular and Specialty Solutions (CSS) businesses in addition to the Johnson and Johnson Vision (JJV) businesses. This person will insure compliance with product stewardship regulations, insure the Earthwards® process is being deployed, lead collection of the Health for Humanity 2020 PS goals and reporting for the group, conduct self-assessments of business units, and lead sustainable packaging initiatives. The Sr. Manager, Product Stewardship, will report to the Director, Product Stewardship for Medical Devices and JJV. The Senior Manager, Product Stewardship will work closely with leaders in the R&D and Supply Chain community, operations, packaging, marketing and other business groups to drive the product stewardship programs in the businesses.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides technical leadership for product stewardship (PS); including Earthwards® and other product stewardship tools and processes. Serves as the global technical expert on Product Stewardship and compliance issues for CSS and JJV businesses, leads compliance to various PS regulations (e.g. REACH, Packaging, RoHS, WEEE etc.) and EHSS Standards for CSS and JJV businesses; Partners with Regulatory Affairs to insure compliance; Monitors regulations, interprets requirements applicable for the business units and insures compliance. Insures compliance programs are established and well-functioning, roles and responsibilities are in place and clear to comply with regulations & standards; Maintains EHS&S PS CAPAs to address any gaps with PS regulations and EHS&S policies and standards. In addition, this person will lead compliance to the EU MDR Restricted Substances activities for CSS and JJV businesses. S/he will lead the completion of MDR RS legacy and New Product Development workstream activities and will also lead the development, execution and implementation of plans to introduce new technology tools for the Medical Devices businesses.
Additional responsibilities include: Developing a strategy to leverage PS and EU MDR RS Programs across all of Medical Devices and JJV businesses. Conducts training of various disciplines / functions to build awareness of PS regulations, emerging PS issues and company policies; Coordinates responses to customer PS questions and supports responses to RFP requests; Coordinates PS programs for CSS and JJV businesses, working to ensure that compliance is occurring for product stewardship legislation / regulations. Sets up management systems to insure regulations are complied with and more sustainable products are being developed; Insures CSS and JJV businesses are adhering to EHS Earthwards® requirements, lead greener product development and support Earthwards® recognition submittals, Health for Humanity 2020 PS goals and reporting; and works with marketing groups to communicate the greener product attributes and to take customer insights and bring them into the new product development process.
- A Bachelor's degree is required
- A Masters with an emphasis on EHS, chemistry, engineering or related sciences is preferred
- A minimum of 8+ years of relevant Product Stewardship experience required
- Familiarity and knowledge of product stewardship technology tools is preferred
- Ability to perform product stewardship risk assessment is required
- Broad knowledge of applicable regulations (EU MDR Restricted Substances requirements, REACH, RoHS, WEEE, Packaging Directive, etc.) and sustainable product design, Earthwards® is required
- Experience in deploying regulatory compliance management systems and programs is required
- Strong influencing skills and ability to engage senior business leaders is required
- Ability to make a good business case and drive change is required
- Strong collaboration skills are required
- Ability to effectively engage and convene diverse groups is required
- Strong attention to detail is required
- Life Cycle Assessment experience is preferred
- Strong English communication (both written and verbal) is required
- This role is located in Santa Ana and/or California/Oregon/Arizona/Washington/Nevada is required
